Brian Cox heads campaign to save The Birmingham Old Rep Theatre and Station Street
  • 18 days ago
Brian Cox, celebrated for his roles in Succession and a stellar career in Hollywood, movies supports a campaign to preserve a Birmingham street’s heritage.

Station Street is home to The Old Rep, Britain’s first repertory theatre which opened back in1913. It sits near the closed cinema, The Electric, which was Britains oldest operating cinema and the vacant pub, The Crown, known for its connection to heavy metal particularly performances there by Black Sabbath. Cox, who has been a patron since 2015, praises The Old Rep for launching renowned actors like Albert Finney and Laurence Olivier.

Around 20,000 people support a petition to designate the area of Birmingham City centre as a cultural asset. While the closure of The Electric raises concerns, The Crown's recent Grade II listing offers hope for Station Street's future.
