The Skegness detatchment of Army Cadets slept out in biting winds and driving rain to raise money for the Royal British Legion to help homeless veterans.

00:07 these members of the Skegness Army Cadets. Beda Adlington, you're the leader.

00:13 Tell us what's happening here tonight.

00:16 Hi, what we're doing, we're supporting the Royal British Legion Industries Great Thomas Leapfrog event for 2014

00:22 which is aimed to raise funds and awareness about the plight of homeless

00:27 veterans in the United Kingdom. So I've got 16 cadets who will be sleeping out tonight

00:31 and as you can see the weather is cold and fairly unpleasant.

00:35 It has been lashing it down hasn't it?

00:37 So they're setting up their shelters tonight. We're going to give them a hot drink shortly and get them all tucked in.

00:42 They'll be spending the night in here. They'll be busy raising money for the British Legion Industries.

00:49 And hopefully they'll have a lot to think about and hope to make a really good cause.

00:56 As far as homeless veterans, isn't it?

00:59 That's correct, yeah. So UK Service personnel who found themselves on the streets, the aim is to give them support and help with this.

01:09 And you're doing it just for one night. I think you were talking earlier and saying that it isn't just one night.

01:18 It's circumstances of death, homelessness, and people who have given so much to the country.

01:30 Right, now we've got one of the cadets over here who's going to tell us exactly how they're going to be sleeping tonight.

01:39 Hi, you're going to be out tonight aren't you?

01:42 Yes, definitely.

01:43 Do you want to show me exactly how you're going to be sleeping?

01:55 Oh, hopefully, yes, definitely.

01:56 OK, so let's go and have a look.

01:58 So we see some cadets putting up their... they're called bashers, is that right?

02:07 So this is probably one of the better examples we've got going on.

02:10 So it's fairly low down, it's just a park.

02:17 People can see how windy it is as well, I promise.

02:21 OK, so let's try and have a look down inside.

02:26 Oh, we've got a light.

02:28 So we've got sleeping arrangements, we've got roll pads underneath with dry, 50% foam.

02:34 So we've got sleeping bags.

02:35 This is essentially the living arrangements.

02:37 Very tight, very cramped, but it's how we like to sleep.

02:40 We love it.

02:41 OK, so we're chewing there and let's see if you can have a look round.

02:46 Everyone is busily getting ready out here.

02:52 So we're at the Skakeness Army Cadets Headquarters in Skakeness.

02:58 You've even got your curtains up at the front, so it'll be impressive out there.

03:01 That's hopefully the wind breaks.

03:03 OK, so do you go on many of these kinds of campers?

03:08 Yes, normally every year we have three weekends as what we like to call companies.

03:15 So we've got a counting which is broken down.

03:17 So each company is what the counting is broken down into.

03:20 And then we have a four-day extent which is a bit limited, which runs over normally it's spring.

03:28 So we don't have a lot of time.

03:31 We have what we call our annual camp, which is 9-10 days where we go away, we go sleep in the field, we shoot.

03:38 We do all kinds of little fun stuff.

03:40 People hopefully don't get hurt, but we'll see what happens.

03:43 So yes, it's a great experience.

03:45 OK, well good luck tonight.

03:47 So obviously you'll be getting all topped up soon, won't you?

03:51 And then finishing at 9 o'clock, your parents are going to come and take you home.

03:57 That's the plan.

03:59 They had Tesco donated some food, I understand, for breakfast.

04:03 Yes, so we've had a donation from Tesco, it's very grateful for that.

04:06 Royal British Legion brought some chocolate, which I think you're going to be tucking into that soon, aren't you?

04:11 It's definitely getting on that.

04:15 OK, so we'll just have a little wander over here and see how it's going.

04:22 That one's looking a bit flat.

04:29 OK, we'll just make our way around here.

04:34 That one's blowing away, so people are busily working around here.

04:43 We're doing all right, we've came deep sided.
