00:00 Travelling across Europe has just got a whole lot easier thanks to this.
00:03 This is the European Sleeper.
00:05 It's an overnight train which goes across four capitals on its journey
00:08 from Brussels to Amsterdam to Berlin and new for March 2024 to Prague, which is where I am now.
00:15 We're going to catch the first train back, which goes from Prague all the way to Brussels.
00:19 It takes 15 and a half hours.
00:20 Here are a few tips if you want to have a good night and a good journey.
00:23 First and foremost, try to book a sleeper carriage,
00:27 which will involve booking early because they sell out.
00:29 They only cost a bit more, but you get a comfy bed and even if you have to share, it will be with less people.
00:34 With the couchette carriages, they're supposed to be for five or six people,
00:36 but I can imagine that getting quite cramped.
00:38 So if you have it, it's worth the extra for a sleeper.
00:40 And whatever you do, don't book a seat.
00:42 And this is sleeping in public 101, but an eye mask and earplugs are a must.
00:47 It's not really a noisy train. It's sort of a consistent low-level noise and it gets pretty dark too,
00:53 but anything you can do to help sleep a bit better is a good idea.
00:56 Food-wise, they only sell limited drinks, snacks and breakfast on board.
00:59 So bring your own food or make sure you board well-fed.
01:02 Breakfast is pretty nice actually. It costs 14 euro and you have to pre-order it.
01:06 While you're at it, don't forget to pack some slippers or warm socks
01:09 or something that you don't mind going to the loo in the middle of the night.
01:12 And finally, if you're lighting at Brussels and catching the Eurostar back,
01:15 leave at least a couple of hours to change.
01:17 It's a bit annoying because it could be such a seamless journey,
01:19 but when you're at the mercy of red lights across several different countries,
01:22 it's best to stay on the safe side.
01:24 Go have a beer or Belgian chocolate somewhere.
