00:00 The Department of Education explained that the public high school teacher went viral
00:05 because of her harassment of students while live-streaming on TikTok.
00:10 I didn't take a board exam just to be disrespected by people like you who have no chance of getting a life.
00:19 You're not smart.
00:21 You have a bad attitude.
00:23 You'll never get anywhere.
00:25 You have a thick skin.
00:28 You're a squatter who will never get anywhere.
00:33 According to DepEd Assistant Secretary Deputy Spokesperson Francis Sabringas,
00:38 the teacher was given three days to give her statement.
00:41 In the initial investigation of DepEd, the teacher got angry after some students asked her to comment on her personal life.
00:49 She said that she will give psychosocial intervention to students who heard hurtful words.
00:55 In the first news, Sabringas said that she is also investigating if the teacher has a violation of DepEd Child Protection Policy
01:02 and her actions regarding the responsible use of social media.
01:07 For now, DepEd is allowing the teacher to go to school and teach.
01:12 There is no punishment or sanction for her because there is no evidence.
01:20 She will not be disallowed from going to school.
01:25 Did you complain to her?
01:27 No.
01:28 We have already talked about that and the reaction of the Teachers Dignity Coalition.
01:37 We have with us this afternoon the chairperson of their group, Benjo Basas.
01:43 Good morning and welcome to the news this afternoon.
01:46 Good morning ma'am Connie and sir Rafi. Good morning to all.
01:50 Sir Benjo, what is your reaction to the live stream that you have broadcasted by the high school teacher to her students?
01:56 First, I'm saddened because why did it reach to that level of emotion and anger.
02:05 She's one of our siblings and I'm sure there's a reason why our teacher is outbursting like that.
02:16 But please explain, based on the DepEd Child Protection Policy and Code Ethics for Teachers,
02:21 how should the ACMA and the students be disciplined?
02:25 We only have provision in the DepEd Child Protection Policy, the so-called positive discipline.
02:35 It is a strategic approach on children's discipline and it's a long process.
02:43 This is a process that we cannot say that this is how the discipline should be.
02:50 It's very simple. Unlike the traditional discipline that we raised our generation,
02:57 where your teacher is beating you, shouting at you, knocking on the table, throwing an eraser at you, and even biting your mouth.
03:06 All of those are unfortunately abuse.
03:12 Yes, it's prohibited.
03:13 It's a violation of the Child Protection Policy and even RA 716, which is a criminal law,
03:20 the Anti-Child Abuse Law, all of those are child abuse.
03:24 So the teacher or anyone may face criminal or administrative charges.
03:32 But I agree and we all agree, even our organization, the Teachers' Dignity Coalition agrees,
03:38 that the words mentioned by the teacher are not correct.
03:45 He can use other words that are not direct and not heavy for the children to hear.
03:54 And the more serious issue here is the social media.
03:59 Yes, that's right. Even some of our students say that there are such things,
04:09 but some of them are live on social media.
04:13 So that's what we hope and we also want to know why the teacher reached that level of his emotion.
04:22 What is the social media viral about the responsible use of social media accounts of teachers, especially if the class is ongoing?
04:30 First of all, we cannot use social media when there is a class.
04:36 Because it is considered as an official time of our work.
04:43 If it's not necessary, I can tell you sir Ating, if it's not necessary, there are occasions when you need to show your class to the remote observer.
04:55 There are such things.
04:57 But this, we have seen that the class of the teacher should not be live, especially if you're a sermon.
05:06 That's one of the rules of social media. We will choose words that sometimes cross the boundary of the person.
05:17 But since this is clear, the teacher is on his official duty.
05:24 The children are in front of him and he's in the classroom.
05:27 Therefore, the rules imposed by the Department of Education on etiquette on social media, especially the use of bad words, is a bit out of place in our class.
05:42 So lessons learned for everyone. Thank you very much for your time this afternoon.
05:49 Yes. Thank you very much as well.
05:51 This is Teacher's Dignity Coalition Chairperson Benjo Basas.
