Transcript
00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has said that the crime rate in the country has decreased in the past 6 years.
00:07 The President has a reminder to the new officials of the Philippine National Police.
00:12 Allan Francisco in the report, Rise and Shine, Allan.
00:15 The government's fight against crime in the country is effective.
00:22 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. himself confirmed that
00:25 in the outtaking of the new officials of the Philippine National Police in Malacanang.
00:30 President Marcos Jr. said that in 2017,
00:33 more than 295,000 crimes were committed in the country
00:37 which decreased in 2022 to more than 207,000.
00:41 We brought it down further to 198,617 in the first full year of this administration.
00:50 Index crimes have gone down threefold in the same period.
00:54 From 107,899 in 2017 to 38,436 last year.
01:02 98% of the crime clearance efficiency recorded in 2023
01:07 was retained by the Philippine National Police in the first two months of 2024.
01:11 Compared to January to February of last year,
01:15 there were fewer cases of theft, of robbery, carnapping, rape and physical injury.
01:20 And we have done it without resorting to legal shortcuts
01:24 or short-circuiting the process or acts that subvert the rule of law.
01:29 Human rights violations also decreased by 50% in 2023 compared to 2022.
01:36 This is proven, according to President Marcos,
01:38 that democracy is an important weapon in the use of justice.
01:43 The data is good.
01:44 The President also reminded the Philippine National Police not to be complacent.
01:48 So let me make this clear.
01:50 We should not be content with the current decrease in crime rates.
01:54 While the statistics can be counted and crime incidents reduced,
01:58 even in their diminished state, the disturbance they cause is still immeasurable.
02:03 Under the new Philippine campaign of the administration,
02:07 President Ejecutivo said that unity is anchored in peace.
02:11 Along with this, he also promised public safety.
02:15 That is why the President is marching order to the newly-appointed PNP officials
02:19 to work for the people until their last day and last hour in service,
02:25 along with the cybercrime they are targeting with the help of technology.
02:29 Each one of you will spend the last mile of your glorious journey,
02:34 not counting the days to your retirement,
02:37 but chalking up and receiving greater success and showing off more achievements.
02:44 Because that is the only way that we can honor the trust that our people have given,
02:50 to work for them until the very last day, the last hour, the last minute of your service.
02:57 Do it so when it is time for you to troop the line for the last time,
03:01 you go contented and comforted in the knowledge that you leave the service
03:07 and the country a better place than what you found.
03:10 Meanwhile, President Marcos of Malacanang also gave a courtesy call
03:14 to the Philippine Military Academy Matapat Class of 1979.
03:18 He visited the country and showed his support to the administration's cadets.
03:24 Alan Francisco for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
