00:00 For the first time since the M25 opened in 1986, part of the motorway will be completely
00:09 shut in a planned daytime closure this month and details of the diversion routes have been
00:15 announced.
00:17 The 5 mile stretch of motorway between junction 11 at Chertsey and junction 12 with the A3
00:23 will be closed from 9pm on Friday March 15th until 6am on Monday March 18th.
00:30 More than 200,000 vehicles are expected to be impacted. Between junctions 9 and 11 the
00:36 M25 normally carries between 4,000 and 6,000 vehicles in each direction per hour from 10am
00:44 till 9pm on weekends.
00:46 The work is part of a £317m improvement project and National Highway said that action is necessary
00:54 to enable a bridge to be demolished and a new gantry to be installed. The project will
00:59 increase the number of lanes and make it easier to enter and exit the M25 at junction 10.
01:05 Dates for four further closures have yet to be announced however the M25 between junctions
01:10 10 and 11 will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday March 15th to 6am on Monday
01:16 March 18th.
