To US citizens, this denomination may sound weird. Indeed, according to Wikipedia "in the United States, a halfway house is a residential center where drug users, sex offenders, the mentally ill, or convicted felons are placed immediately after their release from a primary institution such as a prison, hospital or rehabilitation facility (...)". However this band was no diversion or treatment project for recovering addicts with musical talent. It was simply named after a dance hall located midway between New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. As for the musicians, their mental health and musical talent was irreproachable. This disc was made in 1928. Vocal by Johnnie Saba. Leader Albert Brunies also played the cornet. Personnel included: Sidney Arodin, clarinet and tin whistle; Leo Adde, Emmett Rodgers, drums; Charlie Cordella, clarinet and tenor saxophone; Bill Eastwood, Angelo Malpisano, banjo; Glyn Lea Long, clarinet; Mackie Marcour, Bill Whitmore, piano; Chink Martin, tuba and bass.
