00:04 It's not just a road to healing, but also a self-discovery for Tom Rodriguez
00:08 for the more than two years he lived in America after being separated from Carla Abellana.
00:13 He also mentioned finances in my exclusive interview.
00:17 The bet for richer or for poorer between Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez in October 2021
00:28 was suddenly ended by their separation the following year.
00:32 Tom went to America for his two-week vacation that became two years.
00:38 I couldn't rely on myself back then. I didn't know how even to begin.
00:42 Because I was just like losing everything, you know, my finances, things that I really worked hard on, things I relied on.
00:49 Although he needed to be with his family for his emotional healing, he also needed to find himself.
00:57 So you somehow started from scratch?
01:00 One time it felt like a negative. It started from a negative.
01:04 And then you learn through journaling. That's when I learned to start talking to myself.
01:09 And you realize how you're not talking to yourself.
01:11 Journaling, self-reflection, and just writing down your thoughts.
01:16 And then slowly you start to realize, "Hey, why do I talk to myself like this?"
01:21 He made a self-discovery because of his simple life in America.
01:26 It was a very, very normal life. And I loved every bit of it.
01:29 What did you discover in being a domesticated life?
01:33 I can cook.
01:35 Was there a time in those two years that you thought you didn't want to go back?
01:38 You just stayed there?
01:40 I'm going to be honest, there really was.
01:43 Because life was so good, Nelson.
01:47 But at the same time, like I said, half of my heart is still here.
01:51 I'm very passionate about my work and I really do love it.
01:54 And it's hard to reconcile those two.
01:58 Aside from moving on, Tom found love again.
02:02 And while he's enjoying life with his little nephews,
02:07 he rediscovered a big dream.
02:10 Do you see yourself having a family in the future?
02:15 That's always been my dream.
02:17 Did you ever have fear?
02:22 When I was staying with my family,
02:25 my siblings and I would play Fortnite.
02:29 I would play with my brothers.
02:31 And when I heard my brother, Walter was disciplining his son.
02:35 And then when I heard that, I was like, "Yum, I saw that."
02:40 Like, "You're a dad." He sounds like dad.
02:43 I was like, "That was my dream." And I bawled.
02:45 I was like, "That was my dream and it'll never happen again."
02:47 Because at that time, I thought, "I don't want any more of that."
02:50 But now I'm open to it. My dream is back again.
