India raises concerns at the UN after Pakistan mentions the Kashmir issue

At the 55th Regular Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, India's first secretary Anupama Singh said that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and inalienable part of India. She said it was unfortunate that the council has been again misused to propagate false allegations against India.

00:06 Firstly, we regret the comment made by Turkey on a matter that is an internal affair of India and

00:12 hope that it would refrain from making unsolicited comments on our internal matters in future.

00:18 Secondly, with regard to the extensive references to India made by Pakistan,

00:23 we note that it is deeply unfortunate for the Council's platform to have once again been misused to make patently false

00:31 allegations against India. We are constrained to respond,

00:35 but as we don't wish to similarly waste the Council's time, we will make only three points.

00:41 One, the entire Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and

00:48 unalienable part of India and the constitutional measures taken by the Government of India to ensure

00:54 socio-economic development and good governance in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir are matters internal to India.

01:01 Pakistan has no locus standi to pronounce on matters that are internal to India.

01:06 Two, a country that has institutionalized the systemic persecution of its own minorities and has a truly abysmal

01:14 human rights record commenting on India, which is demonstrably making great strides in achieving economic progress and social justice,

01:22 is not merely ironical but perverse.

01:26 A glaring example was large-scale brutality

01:29 perpetrated against minority Christian community in Janawala in Pakistan in August 2023,

01:35 when 19 churches were gutted and 89 Christian houses burned down.

01:41 Three, a country that hosts and even celebrates UNSC sanctioned terrorists

01:47 commenting on India, whose pluralistic ethos and democratic credentials are

01:52 exemplars for the world, is a contrast for everyone to see.

01:56 Mr. President, I'll conclude by only emphasizing that we cannot pay any further attention to a country that

02:04 speaks while being soaked in red.

02:07 The red of the bloodshed from the terrorism it sponsors around the world, the red of its

02:11 detrital national balance sheets and the red of the shame its own people feel for their government having failed to serve their actual interests.
