00:00 "This guy has only been certified for two weeks and already she's had her first fine."
00:04 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most remarkable canines
00:09 that have played significant roles in cracking criminal cases and ensuring justice is served.
00:14 "Coco would have been able to take them to where Mayor Lee was. Coco ended up being our saving grace."
00:22 Number 10. The $1 Million Drug Bust.
00:27 For eight years, a German shepherd named Baloo faithfully served the Rutherford
00:32 County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee as a canine deputy.
00:34 "Smithies, I've just seen the most heroic dog on television."
00:38 Just days before his retirement in February 2018,
00:42 Baloo played a crucial role in uncovering a major drug shipment.
00:46 During a routine traffic stop, Baloo detected a suspicious scent emanating from a semi-truck
00:52 passing through the state. The dog sniffed around the vehicle and ultimately led deputies to a
00:56 concealed compartment on the flatbed containing over a dozen kilos of narcotics. "There's more
01:02 than a dozen." In total, the estimated value of the seized drugs amounted to about $1 million.
01:08 The driver of the truck was swiftly arrested and charged with felony manufacture,
01:14 sale and delivery of a controlled substance. "It's a controlled substance."
01:18 Number 9. A Mysterious Death.
01:21 Upon discovering the body of a 59-year-old woman in her Paris apartment,
01:25 police initially suspected that she had taken her own life.
01:28 However, her family insisted that she had been murdered.
01:32 "Now that ain't the way we saw it." "It was murder, pure murder."
01:36 To thoroughly investigate these claims, authorities turned to the woman's dog Scooby,
01:41 who was present during the incident. Just like his crime-fighting cartoon namesake,
01:46 Scooby became a crucial witness in the case and was actually called up to testify in court.
01:52 When presented with a suspect to gauge its reaction, the dog reportedly, quote, "barked
01:57 furiously." While this wasn't sufficient evidence to indict the suspect, Scooby was commended by
02:03 the judge for his, quote, "exemplary behavior and invaluable assistance" throughout the case.
02:08 Number 8. A Thwarted Museum Theft.
02:13 In October 2010, authorities in Hillsborough, Oregon responded to a security alert at the
02:19 Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals. While conducting a search of the premises with
02:24 a canine, deputies found a bike and a backpack. "Police say it took a canine team to find 36-year-old
02:29 Gregory Lioskos out in the woods near the Rice Museum." Their investigation extended to a wooded
02:35 area where the dog unexpectedly began tugging at some moss on the ground. To their surprise,
02:40 the "moss" was actually a man dressed in a camouflage suit, who let out a yell as the dog
02:45 bit him. "It's a suit that covers your entire person so that it's very difficult to see you
02:50 when you're out here." The man, Gregory Lioskos, was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal
02:55 mischief. Lioskos had strategically cut a hole in the bathroom wall in an attempt to gain entry
03:01 into the museum. "Pretty elaborate plan." "Would have had to been." He was later sentenced to 16
03:06 months in prison. Number 7. A Foiled Kidnapping.
03:10 In the early hours of July 26, 2016, California Sheriff's Deputy Josh Stone and his canine
03:17 partner Deja responded to a call regarding the kidnapping of a teenager from her grandmother's
03:21 home. "She knows if she finds what she's looking for, she gets her reward, and that's what keeps
03:25 her going." According to reports, the abductor had dragged the victim through the woods, leaving
03:30 fresh drag marks and abandoning her purse along the way. All Deja needed was a few scent articles
03:36 belonging to the victim. "We knew we had something, and she just kept on it from there."
03:42 The dog swung into action, tracking the scent directly to the front door of a house,
03:46 where authorities found the kidnapped girl and her captor. She was reunited with her mother,
03:51 while the suspect was apprehended on multiple charges including kidnapping and domestic battery.
03:56 "Outcomes like that make the training worth it." Number 6. A Familial Murder.
04:01 It took just 30 seconds for a canine named Kati to solve a murder in Uttarakhand, India.
04:06 "German chefhood Kati in Uttarakhand caught the suspect in a murder case
04:10 registered on March 6 this year." The case centered on the death of 21-year-old Shaqib
04:16 Ahmed, whose body was found in a field bearing multiple injuries. Police also found a piece
04:21 of Ahmed's clothing a few meters away, which they presented to Kati to sniff. They then assembled a
04:27 lineup of suspects, which included some of the victim's family members. Within 30 seconds,
04:32 the dog began barking at one of the victim's cousins, Kazim.
04:35 Acting on this, police questioned Kazim and obtained a confession from him.
04:44 "He was then arrested." For her exceptional crime-solving efforts,
04:49 Kati received a cash prize and the prestigious title of Best Personnel of the Month.
04:54 Number 5. The Death of Marilee Cox Lafferty. Before her death in 2016, Marilee Cox Lafferty
05:01 lived with severe epilepsy and was largely dependent on her service dog, Coco.
05:06 "Little did she know that that service would continue even after she was murdered."
05:11 When Cox Lafferty went missing on August 18, it was Coco who helped police determine what
05:16 exactly happened to her. Coco was found wandering the streets on the day of her owner's disappearance
05:21 and eventually led authorities to the house of Cox Lafferty's on-again,
05:24 off-again boyfriend, Stacey Robert Willis.
05:26 Over the next month, police investigated Willis and ultimately arrested him for aggravated murder.
05:43 It was revealed that he had killed Cox Lafferty in a fit of anger and buried her remains in a
05:48 shallow grave. Willis later pleaded guilty and received a prison sentence of 15 years to life.
05:54 "I thank Coco. She's beautiful and it hurts me to think what she may have seen."
06:02 Number 4. The Murder of Vivek. A heated argument between four individuals in
06:07 Ghaziabad, India took a tragic turn, resulting in the death of a man named Vivek. On March 31,
06:13 2020, Vivek was reportedly riding his motorcycle when he collided into a car carrying three men,
06:19 Mohsin, Adil, and Salman. Sadly, Vivek's body was discovered in a field the following day.
06:25 To aid in the investigation, police brought a tracker dog named Lina to the crime scene.
06:30 After sniffing around, Lina led officers to the suspect's hangout spot, which was close to their
06:36 house. This vital lead, plus additional evidence from an informant, enabled the police to apprehend
06:41 all three men. They ultimately confessed to killing Vivek after the collision and discarding
06:46 his remains in the field. Number 3. The Capture of a Double Murder Suspect. In December 2018,
06:54 Robert Stewart fled police after fatally shooting 27-year-old Ryan Halby and his mother Candy in
06:59 Merrillville, Indiana. Among the pursuit team were Stanko Glidzik and police canine Radar.
07:05 The dog picked up Stewart's scent and led the team through the snow to his hiding place in
07:09 a backyard shed. Despite Officer Glidzik's orders for Stewart to surrender, he repeatedly refused.
07:15 What happened next must have been quite a shocker for the suspect. Radar burst into the shed and
07:20 was able to drag Stewart outside to allow the police to place him under arrest. He was charged
07:26 with the double murder, while Radar and Glidzik were honored as the city's employees of the month.
07:30 Number 2. A Case of Arson. A house went up in flames early on November 5, 2001.
07:38 The father of the home, Eric Parsons, managed to escape unhurt, but his wife Cheryl and their
07:43 four children weren't so lucky. Initially, it seemed like an accidental fire, probably the
07:48 result of faulty wiring. However, suspicions arose when arson investigators arrived at the scene with
07:57 their dog Alex. In Eric Parsons' car, Alex quickly picked up traces of an accelerant.
08:03 Subsequently, he identified similar traces on Parsons' clothes and on his children's beds.
08:08 The prosecution portrayed Parsons as an overbearing husband with a history of violence
08:14 towards his wife. He was ultimately found guilty of arson and murder,
08:18 and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

08:36 Number 1. The Disappearance of Kimberly Shumsky. For over three months,
08:43 the whereabouts of 36-year-old mother of two Kimberly Shumsky remained unknown.
08:48 "I'll lead. Suspicions."
08:51 Shumsky reportedly left her family home in Burlington County, New Jersey, on May 8,
08:56 2001, and vanished without a trace. Her husband Thomas, a construction worker involved in a
09:02 building project at the time, succumbed to a drug overdose two months later. Shortly after,
09:07 police searched the building Thomas was working on with a trained detection dog named Eagle.
09:12 Eagle detected the smell of decomposition, leading authorities to discover Shumsky's remains in the
09:18 wall. It turns out her husband had murdered her, wrapped her body in plastic, and cemented it into
09:28 the building's walls. Unfortunately, Thomas passed away before he could face legal consequences.
