Jaden Philogene' Incredible Solo Run and Rabona Finish Help Send Hull Back into the Play-Off Places

If Jaden Philogene can only convince the dubious goals panel, he may well be in the running for the next Puskas Award.

The Hull man's outrageous Rabona equalizer here was bizarrely credited as a Cameron Humphreys own goal after taking the slightest of nicks.

Philogene deserves to be awarded it for his glorious improvisation, having nutmegged Ollie Rathbone, cut back inside from the byline, and deftly wrapped his pink boots around the ball to loop it home.

It was the touch of class Hull desperately needed to crack Rotherham's resistance on one of those character-testing nights that often determine whether a team gets in the playoffs or not.

Four minutes after Philogene's cheeky finish, substitute Noah Ohio completed the turnaround and Liam Rosenior's side found themselves on the cusp of the top six.

Only the goals scored column is keeping them out at the moment and all the Tigers need now is consistency.

But Rotherham looks nearly out for the count. Christ Tiehi's early goal suggested he could be the Millers' savior but after Hull's one-two punch, they remain 12 points adrift of safety and look increasingly destined for League One.

Rosenior described Philogene's goal as 'ridiculous', adding: 'His ability is something we've missed for a long time and he will only get better with the games he plays.

'It's not the goals and showreel moments but the energy levels he gives the team. He has a belief he can be a top player. His goal changed the momentum.

'I thought our performance was top. The players fought, it's such a difficult place to come, and I fully respect their performance.'

With little choice but to keep tunneling away in their great escape bid, Rotherham made a blistering start and led inside five minutes.

Seb Revan's cross fell to the unmarked Tiehi just outside the box and his half-volley took a kindly deflection to wrongfoot Hull keeper Ryan Allsop.

'Never mind a goal, we've had a shot on target,' quipped one disbelieving Millers fan near the press box.
