Mark Thistleton from TaylorMade talks with Charley Hull about what's currently in her bag.
Transcript
00:00 Okay, so Charlie, we've got your four bag of clubs here.
00:02 We're going to take everyone at home through what's in your bag and why.
00:06 So, let's start with the wedges.
00:08 So, you've got a 60 degree, 54, 50 degree.
00:14 Is that the same setup you've had for a long time?
00:16 Yeah, pretty much. It's just enough gaps in all the different, you know,
00:19 the wedges to play different shots with in my shot game.
00:21 You've obviously got the new MG4 there.
00:23 Yeah.
00:23 In the 60. How are you finding that one?
00:25 I really like it. I put it in the bag at US Open and it really helped a lot on the greens.
00:28 So, it was in straight away. It's good signs.
00:30 Yeah.
00:31 Yeah, I mean, obviously, I've worked with you a little bit now and obviously,
00:35 you know, it would be a common theme through the bag is that you haven't really changed too much.
00:39 You like what you like.
00:40 Exactly, yeah.
00:40 And we keep things fairly kind of simple and year on year.
00:44 Moving on into the irons.
00:45 So, something that's quite unusual, I would say, for an LPGA player is you're playing blades.
00:52 So, we've got the 50 degree straight into pitch and wedge, P7MB right through to the 4-Ride there.
00:57 So, like I say, that's quite unusual, I'd say, for an LPGA player.
01:01 Not any more than I know that play a set of blades through the bag and obviously into the shafts.
01:05 Again, 125 grams is pretty heavy, but something that you got used to and you like.
01:10 I've always played blades since I was a kid.
01:12 Like, my first set of clubs was blades and I've always never ever, not played anything other than,
01:18 I used to play tailor-made clubs with the blades back 10, 15 years ago when I was nine, ten years old.
01:23 For everyone at home, like, how far would you say you hit the 4-Ride?
01:26 190.
01:27 190 and then you're moving up into a hybrid.
01:29 Carry that 208.
01:30 208. So, you got 18 yard gap there. Pretty standard once you get up this end of the bag.
01:36 And then my 3-Wedge, my 230 to 235.
01:38 Okay, good. And then, do you know how far would be an average carry? I know it depends on conditions.
01:43 Like, 255, 250.
01:44 255, so you got a pretty good spread there. And are you good at, like, say, manipulating the yardages?
01:49 So, you've got an in-between, you've got a 220.
01:51 I like to, like...
01:52 Would you be hitting a hard hybrid or a soft?
01:53 It depends on, kind of, what's around the green, but sometimes I'll hit, like, a firm, drawy rescue
01:58 or I'll just hit, like, a nice little February Fadey through with him.
02:02 So, yeah, let's go up to the driver. So, Stealth 2 driver, 8-degree.
02:09 Again, very unusual for an LPGA player to play quite a low-lofted driver like that.
02:13 Yeah.
02:13 Talk us through the driver and why you like that setup.
02:15 I don't really like it too spinny and anything more loft, it was getting a bit spinny.
02:18 So, that was better for me and I've always had this shaft, probably for, like, 10 years now
02:22 and I don't make it no more, so I've got to be careful I don't snap any clubs.
02:25 Everything here, to me, looks like it's geared towards low spin.
02:29 And then you're moving on from that, you're in the TP5X, right, which is the low-spin golf ball.
02:33 Yeah.
02:34 So, everything seems to me about keeping the ball flight down, fighting spin.
02:37 Oh, 100%, yeah.
02:38 So, yeah, that's the golf ball and then putter, TP Soto putter.
02:46 Pretty traditional.
02:47 Yeah, I like a traditional putter.
02:50 Obviously, I was brought up playing Scotty Cameron putter, but then you guys come with me to this
02:55 and I really, really liked it and I like playing with it.
02:58 And again, this is what, in about two and a half, three years with this one now?
03:01 Yeah, yeah, it's been two and a half years, yeah.
03:03 So, the common theme here is really not much changes.
03:06 You try and change as little as possible because you like what you like and you know what you know.
03:09 Yeah, I'm quite a traditional player, I think.
03:11 That's, we've basically gone through your bag there.
03:13 TP5X golf ball, Soto putter, MG4 and MG3 wedges there, P7MB irons and then a little bit of a mix-up in the woods.
03:23 Stealth II driver, 8-degree.
