Black and gay voices in "Tongues untied"

Tongues Untied directly confronts issues of racism and homophobia with a rather raw discourse, urging viewers to confront painful, or at least uncomfortable truths. The lyrical form of the film prevents any form of anger. It is the beauty and sincerity that give it a militant strength, which unfortunately, 35 years later, has lost none of its necessity.
