00:00 How are our countrymen doing in Davao de Oro due to floods?
00:05 We will talk to Davao de Oro 1st District Representative Maricar Zamora.
00:11 Good afternoon and welcome to Bagong Pilipinas.
00:14 Good afternoon to all the listeners. Good afternoon.
00:20 Ma'am, first of all, how is the weather in Davao de Oro?
00:25 Will the heavy rains, landslides and floods continue?
00:29 As of yesterday, the weather is okay until now.
00:36 But we have a forecast that the rain will come back tomorrow.
00:45 So that's what we are waiting for.
00:47 But as to the floods, the areas have subsided.
00:53 Although almost all of our agricultural areas are still clean,
00:59 the areas are still submerged in mud.
01:01 So we cannot say that the areas are fully recovered.
01:07 Ma'am, how many casualties have you reported so far?
01:15 Are there still ongoing rescue or retrieval operations?
01:20 Based on the PDRRMO report for the entire province,
01:25 there were 10 deaths based on incidents.
01:32 There are also missing persons.
01:34 As of now, we do not have the exact data on whether the missing persons have been retrieved.
01:44 Based on the data, how many residents or families are affected by the bad weather in Davao de Oro?
01:52 How is the situation of our countrymen who were evacuated in Davao de Oro?
01:58 Based on the PDRRMO report, as of yesterday,
02:06 there were 28,404 families affected and around 106,582 persons.
02:16 These are the directly affected because of floods, evacuations and landslides.
02:25 We are not yet included as the indirectly affected families and individuals
02:32 because of the lack of livelihood and the lack of opportunity to access food
02:40 because the barangay is closed and not accessible.
02:44 The other parts of the province are also not accessible.
02:49 What assistance are our countrymen currently receiving
02:55 from the bad weather? Are your relief packages enough for now?
03:02 The immediate response of our government is the DSWD food packs.
03:11 DSWD has been very supportive when it comes to food packs.
03:17 We have food packs but our problem is that it is not enough
03:23 because our first basis in providing food packs are only those who are directly affected.
03:32 But there are many indirectly affected countrymen who need food packs.
03:38 One of our factors is the lack of food packs, while of course the DSWD is there to support the food packs.
03:47 We also asked for help from the House of Representatives through Speaker Mark
03:53 who became our big brother during this time and we were able to send food packs.
04:00 But our general problem now is that there is a national highway that has been closed for a while
04:12 and it is not advisable to pass through.
04:17 There is now an outer hick, which is a provincial road that heavy trucks cannot pass through.
04:24 That is the challenge of the province because there are municipalities that bought their own food packs
04:36 and used their resources but the suppliers were not able to deliver the food packs.
04:45 Ma'am do you have data on the infrastructure damages and what are the roads that cannot be passed as of now?
04:54 What are the actions of the local government after the flood and landslides?
04:59 As of now, the PDRRMO, Headed Land Provincial Government, is still consolidating.
05:09 Based on my district and my own capacity, I am also consolidating the data on the five municipalities that I am in charge of.
05:20 The majority of the damages that we saw are provincial, municipal roads and roads and flood control projects that were damaged
05:39 that contributed to the great flood that we experienced.
05:46 As of now, what are the places that you are in charge of that are already under state of calamity?
05:55 Ma'am, the entire province has declared a state of calamity.
06:00 Meaning, the province of Davao de Oro has 11 municipalities.
06:06 So the 11 municipalities are technically on a state of calamity.
06:11 So in my district, I have five municipalities in which those five municipalities are hardly hit by the flood.
06:23 Last week is the second round of calamity that we experienced because the other week, we had a shear line effect.
06:39 Because of the shear line, there was a lot of flood and rain. So in the second round, the effect that we experienced was more severe.
06:53 Okay. Mensahe, please remind your constituents in Davao de Oro.
06:59 Yes ma'am. My message to the first ones is that we are thankful to the national government through the DSWT.
07:10 Of course, we know that this is what the DSWT is doing through the order of our President, President Bongbong Marcos,
07:20 in addressing the immediate needs of our flood victims. Of course, we are thankful to the Office of the Vice President for sending assistance,
07:32 Office of Speaker Martin Romaldes for sending assistance, and my fellow members of Congress.
07:37 Thank you very much for providing financial and moral support.
07:42 But of course, we still have a lot of needs, especially on the rehabilitation stage of our countrymen.
07:51 Food box is only an immediate relief, but we still have a lot of needs for the agricultural and infrastructure rehabilitation.
08:01 So my message to our countrymen is that we should continue to trust the government and there are assistance that can reach our countrymen.
08:15 I will also strive to find additional assistance from the national government.
08:22 So to those who are asking if we are okay with Davao de Oro, my answer is no. We are still recovering from the two floods.
08:35 Our prayers are with you ma'am. Thank you very much for your time. Davao de Oro First District Representative Maricar Zamora.
08:43 Thank you very much. Thank you very much for the opportunity.
