00:00 Jharkhand's new CM Champai Soren is set to undergo a floor test at 11am today to establish
00:12 his majority in the assembly.
00:15 His assumption of the top post followed the resignation of the predecessor, Hemant Soren,
00:20 who was subsequently arrested by the enforcement directed last week.
00:24 The ruling JMM-led alliance in an effort to prevent the poaching of MLAs had secluded
00:28 the MLAs in Hyderabad resort but brought them back to Raji on Sunday evening.
00:33 The BJP criticised the coalition's move, asserting a lack of confidence.
00:39 Champai Soren, amidst the allegations of the deliberate delay by the governor, has formed
00:43 the government claiming the support of 43 MLAs in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.
00:48 Meanwhile, the BJP-led ND alliance has 29 members, with 26 from BJP and three from AJSU,
00:55 and they stand as the opposition.
00:57 After Hemant Soren's arrest on 31 January in an alleged land scam case, Champai Soren
01:02 approached the governor, asserting that he has support of 43 MLAs and he can form government,
01:07 although not all signed the letter.
01:10 And so, the reports are now suggesting that some JMM MLAs are not supporting Champai Soren
01:15 and they may abstain from participating in the floor test.
01:19 Former CM Hemant Soren is also expected to attend the voting process after being permitted
01:23 to leave jail by a Raji special court.
01:26 On arrival in Raji, the JMM-led alliance MLAs expressed confidence in winning the trust
01:30 vote, claiming support of almost 48-50 legislators.
01:33 JMM lawmaker Mithilesh Thakur even suggested that some BJP MLAs are going to support the
01:38 Mahagatbandhan.
01:39 Conversely, the BJP chief Binachi Narain has also predicted the JMM-led coalition will
01:44 lose the vote of confidence, citing strict surveillance on MLAs in Hyderabad as a lack
01:49 of confidence.
01:50 The alliance MLAs flown in from the resort were concerned about BJP's attempts to poach
01:55 them before the trust vote.
01:57 JMM MLA Lobin Hembrom has also criticised the resort move already, but has affirmed
02:02 that he will support the coalition government.
02:05 The unfolding political dynamic in the Jharkhand highlights the complex powerplay and manoeuvring
02:09 within the state's assembly.
