00:02 - In Delhi and Connaught Place, and we're walking around,
00:05 and it seems like all the Western brands are there.
00:07 All the young Indian men and women
00:09 are trying to be Westernized.
00:12 All the Western brands are selling consumer products
00:16 with an Indian/Western tint to it.
00:20 Are we in danger of being--
00:24 is consumerism likely to just wipe out
00:26 whatever vestiges of the states we have?
00:28 - It's doing that.
00:29 But the work of the saints is quite deep-rooted.
00:33 So all this consumerism, this shallow philosophy of life,
00:41 will take a while to uproot the whole thing.
00:51 But you are very right.
00:52 Very dark forces are at work, and they are in great hurry.
00:57 So Indians are losing whatever little trace of spiritual wisdom
01:07 was left with them, and that's happening pretty fast.
01:11 It's happening.
01:14 We talked of Connaught Place.
01:15 You'd have struggled to see a single word in the Devanagari
01:20 script.
01:23 You remove the people from there,
01:25 and if you're left with just the banners and the boards
01:29 and the brands, it will be very difficult for you
01:32 to tell whether it is Delhi or some Western city.
01:39 Maybe the filth would drop a hint, but if you clear that also,
01:46 Connaught Place is so much like, let's say a place in Paris,
01:52 obviously, comparable, or anywhere in the US.
01:58 Just remove the people so that you don't see brown skin,
02:01 and then there's no difference.
02:03 So yes, India is trying very hard to become a cheap copy of the West.
02:15 Had that been of some use, I would have gladly accepted,
02:22 rather participated, but that's of no use.
02:29 The West does not remain, rather does not want to remain the way it is.
02:34 Why do we want to ape the West?
02:37 The West is hardly happy being itself, and we want to become that.
02:42 Makes no sense at all.
02:45 And I'm not talking of Western technology, I'm not talking of the work culture in West.
02:50 We should admire that, and we should emulate that even,
02:56 but when it comes to copying values and philosophy of life,
03:06 West is not the place to look towards.
03:11 India has the stuff fortunately, that even the West should be looking towards.
03:17 So it's pretty stupid, if Indians are all the time trying to ape West, and migrate to
03:24 West, and all those things.
03:25 See even migration to West I understand, somebody could do that for purely financial reasons
03:29 and that's pretty much okay, but trying to become a Westerner is a totally different thing.
03:38 In language, in culture, in food, in values, in the extent of disregard of your spiritual
03:57 heritage, you want to be as unaware of let's say Vedanta as a typical Westerner is, and
04:10 then you want to say no, that's what makes me a Westerner.
04:13 Westerners do not know Vedanta, I too have refused to know a word of Vedanta, and that's
04:17 what makes me a Westerner.
04:21 Even Hindi or any other Indian language, I would speak in a Western accent, and that's
04:25 considered so cool, so cool, that's ultra hip, if you can speak Hindi in let's say an
04:35 Irish accent.
04:38 Bhaya, lash pehat naagur chaloge kya?
05:00 How can that be a thing?
05:05 And we'd never be able to copy them as well as they are themselves, so why are we playing
05:10 a losing game again?
05:11 No copy can rival the original, no copy ever can rival the original, you can just be pay
05:16 limitations and how can that be a good thing?
05:22 But I mean we are doing the same thing because if you see the neo-spiritual circles of the
05:27 West, I mean yeah, they pose themselves as very carefree, but deep down they are just
05:33 afraid.
05:37 So I guess, yeah, I guess there's not much places to go if the West and the East are
05:48 both like.
05:52 That tells you that that which you are looking for is not spatial, is not temporal, so you
06:00 will not get it in the future, equally you will not get it at a particular place.
06:07 There is that beyond space and time, it simply means that stop looking for it at particular
06:13 places.
06:14 It is not in Finland, it is also not in the Indian spaces, it is somewhere else.
