A similar set up from this afternoon will continue into the evening, with a fair amount of cloud over the south, outbreaks of drizzle and rain in western parts, reaching Wales, southwest England and North Ireland. Northern England will tend to see more clearer spells, however patchy cloud increasing here. Showery and breezy for northern and western Scotland. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 03/02/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Jonathan Vautrey.

00:00 Hello there, welcome to your latest weather update from the Metaface. Some of us did manage
00:05 to see a few glimmers of sunshine during Saturday. This #LoveUK weather photo sent to us from
00:11 Norwich showing a few blue skies around, but really into the second half of the weekend
00:15 and the start of the new working week it is these cloudier scenes that many of us will
00:19 have to get used to. There's already a reasonable amount of cloud around and across the southern
00:23 half of the UK to kick off Saturday evening, some outbreaks of drizzle for Wales, South
00:27 West England. Few clearer spells initially for Eastern Scotland, Northern England, but
00:32 the cloud will tend to thicken up as we head into the second half of the night. Some longer
00:36 spells of rain eventually spreading into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland as we head closer
00:39 towards dawn. Showers persisting for the Northern Isles and here we do hold on to some slightly
00:44 chillier conditions, 1-2 degrees Celsius overnight, but elsewhere it is going to be mild for the
00:49 time of year, 7-10 degrees Celsius, temperatures we'd normally see during the daytime at this
00:56 point in February. That starts us off then for a fairly drab and grey start for many
01:03 and particularly damp and wet then into Northern Ireland, Northern England and Western areas
01:08 of Scotland as that rain spreads its way in. Further outbreaks of drizzle for Wales, South
01:12 West England, reasonably cloudy elsewhere in the south, but we could again see a few
01:16 glimmers of sunshine poking their way through, particularly for Eastern Wales, parts of Eastern
01:20 England and also perhaps Eastern Scotland. So far, Northern Isles seeing some very strong
01:25 winds throughout the day, consistently bringing in those blustery showers, but there will
01:29 also be some very strong gusts of wind around Northern Ireland, the Irish Sea over the Pennine
01:34 districts as well in particular, but a blustery day right across the board. It will take the
01:39 edge off the feel of things a touch, but with those winds coming up from the south west
01:44 a mild direction, temperatures will still be above average for the time of year. So
01:49 if you're sheltered from that wind again, mild around 12, 13 degrees Celsius for many
01:55 of us. This rain will become particularly persistent as we head into Sunday evening
02:00 and overnight with the frontal system stalling across Scotland and further areas of low pressure,
02:06 consistently bringing repeated wet conditions and further rain throughout, particularly
02:11 for Western districts. So a yellow rain warning does come into force from six o'clock on a
02:16 Sunday evening and continues right throughout Monday as well. Areas to the south of that
02:21 will have a fairly dry at night, but also reasonably cloudy. Again, a few pockets of
02:26 drizzle certainly can't be ruled out again, some hill fog and coastal fog around at times,
02:32 but still mild underneath all that cloud, nine, eight degrees Celsius for most. But
02:36 to the north of that front, we do just hold on to that cooler air in the north. Again,
02:41 a touch of frost possible in a few places. And as that rain pushes into the colder area
02:46 ahead of it, we could see some hill snow falling during the early hours of Monday morning across
02:50 northern areas of Scotland. And that might start to fall to lower levels as well across
02:54 the likes of Caffness into Orkney as we head during the day. Also, that rain then becomes
02:59 particularly persistent for the Highlands, Argyll and Bute, potentially close to a month's
03:03 worth of rain falling by the end of Monday. So do take care. Some disruption is possible.
03:09 Cloudy drizzly for areas to the south of that. Again, the potential for the odd sunnier break,
03:14 brighter sunshine to eventually develop into the afternoon, but they will be fairly fleeting
03:19 and isolated, still quite blustery for many of us again. But if you are sheltered from
03:25 that, once again, those winds are coming in from the southwest, mild for the vast majority
03:29 of us away from the very far north of Scotland in the Northern Isles where we hold on to
03:34 that slightly colder air. This rain in the north looks like it will eventually push its
03:39 way southwards as we head throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. But we hold on to that mild
03:45 theme in the south right throughout the week. But behind the frontal system, something a
03:49 touch chillier moving into northern districts for the middle point of the week. We'll have
03:53 plenty of updates on that over the next few days. So make sure you're subscribing to the
03:58 YouTube channel for all those latest updates. And of course, we'll see you again here very
04:02 soon. Bye bye.
04:03 Thank you.
