Chinese Doctors is a 2021 Chinese suspense natural health threat film co-produced, co-cinematographed and directed by Andrew Lau Wai-keung (劉偉強) and starring Zhang Hanyu (張涵予), Yuan Quan (袁泉), Zhu Yawen (朱亚文), Li Chen (李晨), with Jackson Yee (易烊千玺 Yi Yang Qian Xi) and Oho Ou (欧豪). The movie follows the TRUE STORY of frontline medical workers who fought against the COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, Hubei, China.
The film was premiered in China on 9 July 2021, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. The film received mixed to positive reviews and won Best Music at the 34th Golden Rooster Awards.
Based on a TRUE STORY. The year is 2019 and in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, doctors begin admitting patients who appear to have fallen ill with some kind of disease with symptoms quite unlike any other illness. Perplexed by the outbreak, doctors at front-line healthcare clinics such as the Wuhan Jin Yin Tan Hospital – including Wen Ting (Yuan Quan), Tao Jun (Zhu Yawen), Wu Chen Guang (Li Chen), and Zhang Jing Yu (Zhang Hanyu) – find themselves treating hundreds of patients per day, all of whom appear to have fallen ill with the disease.
The illness turns out to be a new form of the coronavirus – later to be dubbed COVID-19. But these healthcare workers have no idea what kind of illness they are fighting, what kind of drugs might help them treat the sick, nor how to prevent it from spreading. Aware that they are standing firmly in harm’s way as the epidemic balloons into a pandemic that will bring the entire world to its knees, the medics have no choice but to fight the deadly virus head-on ......
