00:00 I'll tell you a little about myself.
00:02 I am Salvadorian.
00:04 (audience cheering)
00:07 It's important for me to say that because for a long time,
00:10 I didn't like telling people I was Salvadorian.
00:13 When you tell people you're Salvadorian,
00:14 it's always followed by a bunch of questions.
00:17 Oh, you're from El Salvador?
00:20 What part of Mexico is that?
00:23 (audience laughing)
00:25 Then you have to explain geography to people.
00:28 It's like, no, it's a whole different country.
00:32 Oh, you mean like Puerto Vallarta?
00:34 (audience laughing)
00:35 Like, yes, exactly.
00:37 Then I would get people that would say,
00:40 oh, but you don't look Salvadorian.
00:43 Then I have to explain to people that Salvadorianos,
00:46 we don't always wear our pupusas, right?
00:49 That's only for special occasions.
00:52 Tell you, man, oh, man.
00:56 I remember having to come out to my Mexican friends.
01:00 I was like, hey, guys,
01:03 I have something I need to tell you.
01:08 I'm Salvadorian.
01:13 They were like, oh, we know.
01:17 (audience laughing)
01:18 We can smell the curtido on you.
01:20 My Mexican friends would always out me to their families.
01:25 They would be like, oh, this is Jose, a Salvadoran.
01:28 (audience laughing)
01:30 I'm like, would you let them like me before you out me?
01:33 Give me a chance, come on, man.
01:36 My name is Jose.
01:38 Most Salvadoran men have names like Wilson, Nelson,
01:43 Walter with a G.
01:46 (audience laughing)
01:49 Me, Jose with an H.
01:51 It's with an H because it's pronounced in French.
01:55 Who's it?
01:56 I had a lady ask me one time.
02:00 She was like, oh, Jose, that's such an interesting name.
02:04 How do you say that in English?
02:06 I was like, Jose.
02:11 (audience laughing)
02:14 I like how people who hear my name,
02:17 who speak Spanish, 'cause they hear Jose
02:19 and they pronounce it Jose.
02:21 And to me, that's the most funniest thing
02:24 'cause it sounds like an excited black lady saying my name.
02:28 Hey, Jose.
02:28 I see you, baby.
