A Powerful Electric Off-Road Motorcycle From China , New Gowow Ori E-Moto 2024

It's no surprise that one of the newest entrants to the rapidly growing e-moto scene comes to us from China. A startup called Gowow has introduced its latest electric dirt bike, called the Ori, and on paper it looks set to compete with more established players like Cake and Trevor Motorcycles. From a styling perspective, Gowow Ori clearly borrows more than a few style cues from Cake Kalk. From its athletic enduro stance to its minimalist design, you might mistake the Ori for a Cake product at first glance.

On paper, Ori has some impressive features. She tips the scales at 73 kilograms, or about 161 pounds, and has an impressive 50:50 weight distribution. When it comes to performance, Gowow says its electric motor produces up to 420 Nm (310 pound-feet). Needless to say, this figure will certainly raise some eyebrows, but Gowow claims that the Ori is electronically limited to a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour). For reference, it produces 9 kilowatts (about 12 horsepower) of maximum power.

When it comes to battery, it rocks what Gowow calls a "Fast as meteor power" system. That's a fancy way of naming the in-house battery, which consists of 21700 cells. The power pack claims a range of 100 kilometers (62 miles) on a single charge; That's not a lot for a road bike, but it's pretty good for a dirt bike. Of course, like all electric motorcycles of this caliber, the Ori comes with technology integration in the form of a dedicated app that allows you to track ride stats and vehicle information in real time.

Gowow Ori is supported by a very impressive technology with its frame made of double-post composite material. The rear suspension features a four-link system and a true dirt bike setup that looks like a shock with an external reservoir. Like all good off-road bikes, the Ori has rocker hydraulic disc brakes front and rear.

Gowow Ori was recently approved for road use in Japan. It is offered as a street-legal version in Japan, classified as a Type 2 moped, but the pictures provided clearly show the absence of any lighting, turn signals and mirrors. It carries a hefty price tag of 1.2 million yen, or about US$8,100 in Japan; That's much more expensive than a premium road bike or dual-sport.

Interestingly, Gowow's website says the Ori is available in the US for $6,500, and after some digging, we managed to find some powersports experts who claim the bike is in stock. For example, Jacksonville, Florida-based Lithium Powersports has the Gowow Ori in stock and is listed for $5,600 at the time of this writing. However, don't expect it to be a street-legal machine in the US because it lacks all the safety equipment needed to be classified as such.
