00:30 According to the Sugar Regulatory Administration,

00:32 1.75 million metric tons or more than 100,000 tons of sugar is being produced by farmers.

00:43 Sometimes 20-30% or even more decrease in the amount of rice.

00:47 Our progressive farmers in Negros, everybody's been complaining of a drop.

00:52 In Batangas, the same thing.

00:55 So this is all related to weather.

00:57 Water is a big thing for the growth of crops, according to the United Sugar Producers Federation of the Philippines or UNIFED.

01:05 But due to the effect of El Niño,

01:07 The effect of this drought will be in the next couple of years, starting September of this year, all the way to 2025.

01:14 We feel that we are short again.

01:16 This is concerning. If you have less production, there will be less money for the farmers.

01:21 That's how it's going to be. And we're going to be importing more sugar.

01:25 According to the Sugar Regulatory Administration,

01:28 even if the production of sugar decreases, consumers should not worry.

01:33 Even businesses are using sugar because there is enough buffer stock that can reach 200,000 metric tons.

01:40 If the production drops, if it happens, we have the buffer stock.

01:47 So retail is not supposed to go up based on that.

01:52 That will stay until milling ends.

01:54 So we will always have a buffer because if it's milling season, we harvest, our production is overconsumption.

02:03 Meanwhile, President Bongbong Marcos approved the P5 billion fund to buy sugar from farmers through the Philippine International Trading Corporation.
