A double fatality marred the practice session for the 2023 edition of the Southern 100, held on the Billown circuit, near Castletown, in the south of the Isle of Man. It happened around 19h00 on Tuesday, 11 July 2023 on the final lap of the evening up-to 1100 cm3 practice session.

The experienced rider Alan Connor, 50-year-old, from County Meath in Ireland, lost control of his Suzuki bike and crashed on the bypass road, near Malew Street, in Castletown. Liam Clarke, 66, from Wigan in Greater Manchester, England, who was marshalling the event for the first time, was fatally injured in the collision.
