Ariel Sharon Aggressive and Controversial, Israeli Leader

Ariel Sharon is one of the most influential political figures in Israel. He served as prime minister of Israel twice, from 2001 to 2006.
Sharon was born in Kfar Malal, a moshav (collective settlement) in Central Palestine, on February 26, 1928. He was the son of Samuel and Vera Scheinermann. His family were Jewish immigrants from Russia who fled anti-Jewish pogroms.
Sharon grew up in Kfar Malal and joined the Haganah Jewish resistance movement at a young age. He played an active role in Israel's War of Independence in 1948.
After the war, Sharon continued his military career and served in various command positions. In 1967, he commanded the Sinai Division in the Six Day War, which resulted in Israeli victories over Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.
In 1973, Sharon served as commander of the Southern Front during the Yom Kippur War. He played an important role in reclaiming the Suez Canal from Egypt.
In 1973, Sharon was elected as a member of the Knesset (Israel's parliament). He served in various cabinet positions, including minister of agriculture, minister of defense, and minister of foreign affairs.
As defense minister, Sharon was responsible for Israel's military operations in Lebanon in 1982, which resulted in the killing of hundreds of Lebanese civilians.
In 2001, Sharon was elected prime minister of Israel. As prime minister, he was known for his tough stance against Israel's enemies. He also played an important role in peace negotiations with the Palestinians, although his efforts failed.
In 2005, Sharon announced plans to withdraw Israeli troops from Gaza. This plan was opposed by many parties, including his own political party. Sharon finally stepped down as prime minister in 2006 because he suffered a stroke. https://youtu.be/9nwbLddl2SM
