00:00 - No, you just got me excited.
00:02 - Yeah.
00:03 - Because I don't really know what I do next
00:06 after this movie.
00:07 I don't really know.
00:08 I want to know what fans want and like what the ideas are.
00:12 If we're bringing X-Men back,
00:13 (laughs)
00:14 I'll want to be there.
00:16 (laughs)
00:17 - The fate of the multiverse depends on us.
00:20 (dramatic music)
00:29 - To start, I am curious,
00:31 is there any part of you that is now terrified
00:34 that Scarlet Witch is going to go across the multiverse
00:37 and dreamwalk into you and take over your body?
00:39 (laughs)
00:42 - No, I'm not terrified of that.
00:44 I would welcome it gladly.
00:46 (laughs)
00:47 - That's impressive and bold.
00:49 That's an interesting stance.
00:51 - It's our friends.
00:53 (laughs)
00:54 - There you go.
00:55 For like basically the last year, since WandaVision,
00:57 there's been a lot of debate
00:58 about just kind of the morality
01:00 of what Wanda did in Westview
01:03 and just the consequences that she faced for it.
01:06 Obviously this movie very much addresses that in a big way.
01:09 I'm curious how early on you knew
01:11 that you were going to be the antagonist for this film
01:14 and kind of answering all of those big questions.
01:16 - I learned about what we were going to do in this movie
01:22 right before we went back to finishing WandaVision
01:25 during the pandemic break that we had.
01:27 So we had only the exteriors left
01:31 and primarily the end of WandaVision,
01:35 but all the exteriors we hadn't shot yet.
01:37 And I was confused about how do I do that now?
01:43 (laughs)
01:48 And so my goal is to figure out
01:50 how to create a natural evolution
01:56 from this woman who's isolating,
01:59 taking accountability alone of her actions,
02:03 accepting the fact that she has this destiny
02:06 of being this very powerful witch and learning about it
02:10 and allowing that to be the next chapter of her life.
02:15 And so I hoped that in "Doctor Strange"
02:18 that evolution was grounded in something
02:22 and felt different and not repetitive, hopefully.
02:24 - Oh yeah, no, it is definitely a major next step
02:27 for the character and it's incredible to see.
02:29 - You break the rules and become a hero.
02:32 I do it and I become the enemy.
02:36 - The moment when Scarlet Witch
02:37 looks directly into the camera,
02:39 the reaction that it gets from the audience,
02:41 it's basically a jump scare.
02:43 Was that something that was in the script?
02:45 Did that come up on the day?
02:47 - That was something Sam had me do once.
02:48 (laughs)
02:50 It was like the last take.
02:51 Sam was like, "Hey, how about this time
02:53 you just look into the lens?"
02:54 And I was like, "Great, love that idea."
02:56 And that was it.
02:57 It was something that he just thought of
03:00 for just, you know, might as well throw it in
03:02 while we're here and shooting it.
03:04 I loved that idea though.
03:05 - This is going to be fun.
03:06 - I do need to ask about Scarlet Witch's showdown
03:09 with the Illuminati because these are characters
03:12 that audiences have been waiting to see
03:14 in the MCU on the big screen for a long time
03:17 and you tear through them like tissue paper.
03:19 So like, just what was that experience like for you?
03:22 And just knowing that, what was it like
03:24 holding onto the secret?
03:25 - Well, there is one point where I was like,
03:27 "You guys are making this too hard for her."
03:29 (laughs)
03:30 I didn't think it was easy enough,
03:33 but then we decided that the limitation
03:37 is that she's not in her body.
03:40 She is in a less oiled version of her body.
03:44 So it's not capable of doing as much as our universe's
03:48 Wanda could do because it's more about
03:52 being using the body like a bad car or something
03:55 or not so tuned up car.
03:56 So I wanted it to be easier,
03:59 but it was amazing to get to have those moments.
04:05 I really enjoyed,
04:07 I really enjoyed especially the first couple
04:10 that were just like, "Pah, pah."
04:12 - What was it like, I mean,
04:13 having John Krasinski and Patrick Stewart on set,
04:16 like welcoming them into this whole business?
04:19 - I've never met them.
04:21 (laughs)
04:23 - Movie magic? - That's a little more impressive.
04:25 - That doesn't seem fair.
04:26 - Wanda, with this movie, we obviously see her introduced
04:29 into like big ingrained into the world of magic,
04:32 but in the comics, she is obviously a massive part
04:34 of the X-Men as well.
04:36 And knowing that that is coming in the next few years,
04:39 I'm curious if that is something on your radar
04:41 and that you're at all preparing for.
04:43 - No, you just got me excited.
04:45 - Yeah.
04:46 - Because I don't really know what I do next
04:49 after this movie.
04:50 I don't really know, I wanna know what fans want
04:53 and like what the ideas are.
04:55 But I guess you just said it,
04:56 if we're bringing X-Men back,
04:58 (laughs)
04:59 I'll wanna be there.
05:01 But no, I have no actual plans yet.
05:05 I am very excited to talk with Kevin
05:08 about that at some point.
05:09 - Everything you've ever known led you to this moment.
05:13 (dramatic music)
05:16 (dramatic music)
05:18 (upbeat music)
