Petrus Alders Fatal Crash @ Zandvoort 1960 (Aftermath)

The BRM P48 driven by Dan Gurney had a brake failure coming down the front straight, on the 13th of the 75-lap Grand Prix of the Netherlands, held on Monday, 06 June 1960 at Zandvoort.

The car ran straight off the course at the Tarzan corner through the small fences and turned over, killing Peter Alders, 19, standing in a prohibited area, and injuring others along the way.

A small group of spectators, including Petrus Alders, was in the little dip in the dunes behind the Tarzan corner. On that low point people cannot watch the cars on the track. This area was used to walk to the field outside the track.

Alders, who was a mechanic from Haarlem, died early in the evening at Santpoort hospital. His name was reported to be Piet Alders or Jan Alders, depending on the source.
