Australian drag racer Brody Ford, 26, was killed while competing in the Albany Racewars event held on the 1000-meter dragstrip of Albany Airport in the Great Southern region, Western Australia, on Sunday, 03 March 2019 morning.

At about 11h30, Brody Ford was clocked doing speeds of 260.98 km/h (162.2 mi/h) at the end of his run. After passing the finish line, his white 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang failed to stop in the shutdown part of the track. The car entered a grass and sandy area, rolled over several times and broke into pieces. Brody Ford was extracted from the wreck before it was engulfed in flames.

The injured driver was taken to Albany Hospital and in the afternoon he was flown in a critical condition to Royal Perth Hospital, where he succumbed to his head injuries later that same day.

Originally from Albany, Brody Ford lived in Perth, Western Australia, at the time of his death, working at Rio Tinto's West Angelas mine in the Pilbara region. His parents and his former partner of four years, Maddison Shanhun, were at the track, among the around 10,000 fans watching the races.
