00:07 [APPLAUSE]
00:16 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:23 And welcome to Fast Talk with Boy Abundo.
00:31 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:33 --Facebook, YouTube, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:36 Welcome to the program.
00:38 [APPLAUSE]
00:41 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:45 The breakout star, I think, of--
00:49 he's not my thing, but a lot of people consider him
00:51 to be the breakout star of 2023, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:56 --2024.
00:58 Best actor, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:03 Metro Manila Film Festival.
01:05 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] Because it had been extended up
01:07 to January 14.
01:10 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] Please welcome Cedric Huan.
01:12 [APPLAUSE]
01:15 Thank you.
01:16 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:19 I know when you won, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:24 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:26 Yes, sir.
01:27 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:28 But take me to that moment.
01:30 How were you feeling?
01:32 What was it like?
01:35 It was overwhelming, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:37 even though a lot of people were asking me,
01:40 what if [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:41 And I keep on saying that I don't want to expect a separate
01:44 less expectation.
01:45 Because you were up against the legendary Boy of the Leone,
01:49 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:50 Mr. Piero Pascual, Arden Richards, Terry Gramsci.
01:54 So it was like five Goliaths versus one David.
01:57 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:01 Yeah, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:02 Because you did a good job.
02:02 You did a great job.
02:03 Thank you.
02:04 And then, so?
02:05 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:07 I'm trying to compose myself.
02:13 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:14 When I'm about to step on the stairs,
02:17 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:18 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:20 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:21 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:23 After 10 years, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:29 I have to do it now.
02:31 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:33 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:35 Overwhelming in crowd.
02:36 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:37 Including some of my friends, like Arnold Reyes.
02:41 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:42 Yes, yes.
02:46 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:47 So you offered-- you gave that hope, the possibilities.
02:55 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:56 Yeah, yeah.
02:57 And also, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:58 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:20 And if you were to do your thank you speech right now,
03:24 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:28 How would you do it?
03:28 Can I?
03:32 Go ahead.
03:34 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:38 Can you do it the theater way?
03:40 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:42 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:11 [APPLAUSE]
04:13 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:15 If you were to do it in front of a camera for film,
04:19 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:22 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:25 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:27 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:28 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:30 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:31 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:38 Yeah, yeah.
04:39 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:43 Move from film to theater, theater to film.
04:47 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:48 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:50 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:52 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:54 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:55 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:56 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:57 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:58 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:59 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:00 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:01 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:02 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:03 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:04 And you speak to that last person in the audience.
05:06 Up to the last, yeah.
05:07 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:08 In film, it's just this, right?
05:11 So you have to play with that frame,
05:14 you have to show all your nuances,
05:17 mostly in the eyes.
05:18 Sometimes, there are tight shots, medium shots, wide shots,
05:23 so it's different.
05:24 It's different, you have to do it
05:25 to give an arc of emotion that you will give.
05:28 Ok, just before this interview,
05:30 I was talking to your first managers,
05:32 I mean, specifically to Percy Intalan.
05:34 Percy told me,
05:35 since, by the way,
05:37 you were the first talent of Ideas First, right?
05:40 And what Percy said is,
05:42 from the very beginning,
05:44 you didn't entertain the idea of wanting to be a celebrity,
05:48 a star.
05:50 It was clear to them that you wanted to be an actor.
05:53 You didn't even ask how much it would cost.
05:56 You just started.
05:57 Maybe I got used to the theater.
05:59 We knew that we wouldn't make it here,
06:03 but for the art,
06:04 and for all the learning,
06:05 and the representation,
06:06 it was a big help.
06:07 But does it also help that you come from a family that does not,
06:13 I mean, it's hard to say,
06:15 you're rich.
06:17 It's really rags to riches.
06:20 You worked hard.
06:21 You're comfortable.
06:23 Yes.
06:23 I think it's worth it.
06:24 But before, when I started pursuing this,
06:28 it wasn't easy.
06:29 It was really hard.
06:30 I argued with my parents,
06:32 "Why am I doing this?"
06:34 You don't earn money.
06:35 Yes.
06:36 They asked me,
06:38 "You finished a four-year course.
06:41 I hope you find a day job."
06:43 It's like that.
06:44 Because in the Philippines,
06:45 the pursuit of art is extracurricular.
06:48 Right.
06:48 I talked to Pepe Jokno.
06:50 You know that I talk to everyone.
06:52 Pepe said,
06:54 "You are an intense, committed actor.
06:58 What is your process?"
06:59 Definitely.
07:00 Very, very quickly.
07:01 Very, very quickly.
07:02 I don't memorize.
07:04 I don't memorize first.
07:05 I want to understand the context of the character.
07:09 I read it multiple times
07:11 so that I understand the context of each line
07:15 and also the character arc
07:17 and emotional arc of each sequence.
07:19 But what about the moment?
07:21 For example, your line is,
07:22 "I love my country.
07:24 I can give my life for my beloved country."
07:29 If you have that line,
07:30 you go to that line over and over again.
07:32 Why?
07:33 For you to understand that it's not just the surface.
07:37 You need to understand that love is not just love.
07:41 If you were to do that line, say that line
07:43 so that you can understand.
07:44 There are many new actors watching us.
07:46 Go ahead.
07:48 "I love my country.
07:50 I will do everything for my country
07:53 to get rid of all kinds of oppression
07:57 that our beloved countrymen feel."
08:00 And if you were to say that more committed and angrier,
08:03 how would you do it?
08:06 "I love my country.
08:08 I will do everything
08:10 to help the most affected people in the Philippines."
08:14 You're so intense.
08:16 You're scary.
08:18 But before all of this,
08:21 you've been through a lot of auditions.
08:23 You've been through a lot.
08:25 You were a prankster on Wow Mali.
08:27 Right?
08:28 What was that?
08:28 What was that job?
08:29 Well, it was really OJT, Uncle Boy.
08:32 I was doing OJT because I was a student in Mass Communication.
08:36 So I was doing OJT.
08:37 We were brainstorming with the writers.
08:40 And we were also using Wow Mali's talent.
08:43 So we were pranking our victims on the streets.
08:46 So at the same time,
08:47 you were also practicing acting because it improved.
08:50 So there.
08:51 Right.
08:52 That must have been fun, right?
08:53 Yes.
08:53 You also did a lot of extra things.
08:57 You didn't deny what you saw on camera.
09:00 You didn't complain because you wanted to be an actor.
09:04 Yeah.
09:04 Let's even go back further.
09:07 You were part of a group called Murayta Boys.
09:10 Yes.
09:10 What was that?
09:11 Dance and sing and dance?
09:13 That was 2009.
09:15 And during that time, Kanto Boys were really popular.
09:17 Okay.
09:18 Yeah, Vong Navarro.
09:19 They danced a lot but they weren't really skillful dancers.
09:25 So they danced to entertain people.
09:28 What kind of dance?
09:29 Any kind of movement?
09:30 Um...
09:32 Like, it was very interpretative.
09:34 It was very comedic.
09:35 It didn't have to be dancers.
09:38 Not the dance?
09:39 Yes, not the dance.
09:41 So it was entertainment.
09:42 And where did you do that?
09:43 We did it at school.
09:46 When there was an event called the Institute of Art and Sciences.
09:49 And you were really popular at school.
09:52 Yeah, recently.
09:53 Because of all the recognitions and accolades.
09:55 That's right.
09:56 You were there, right?
09:57 Yes.
09:59 John, Guts, Bryan, Tony.
10:01 I know.
10:01 When you see that photo, what comes to mind?
10:05 What do you remember?
10:06 It's very humbling, Uncle Boy.
10:08 Because that's where my dream of becoming a performer started.
10:11 Because I was a dancer.
10:13 And you didn't give up?
10:14 I didn't give up.
10:16 I think this was...
10:17 For young artists,
10:19 for those who dream of becoming artists,
10:21 who are now watching us,
10:22 what is your most important message?
10:24 Always be present.
10:26 Always treat everyone on set or on stage equally.
10:32 That it's really an ensemble work.
10:35 Because work ethics are very important.
10:37 And I really encourage everyone,
10:41 if you want to pursue acting,
10:43 at least the basics of theater.
10:44 As in, you'll use it even if you don't pursue acting.
10:48 You'll use it in your daily life.
10:49 That's right.
10:50 And have fun.
10:51 Have fun, yes.
10:51 Enjoy the journey.
10:52 Yes, sir.
10:53 And we're going to have fun as we do fast talk.
10:55 Woo!
10:56 Do you want to see Cedric dance while we're doing this?
10:59 Yes!
11:00 Right?
11:00 Yes!
11:01 [LAUGHTER]
11:03 Okay.
11:04 Cedric, this is the dancing fast talk.
11:07 Okay.
11:07 Okay?
11:08 And our time of two minutes, and our time begins now.
11:12 Juan Pedro.
11:13 Juan.
11:14 Godzilla.
11:15 Godzilla Gumburza.
11:17 Gumburza.
11:17 Stoplight, spotlight.
11:19 Stoplight.
11:19 Early bird, night owl.
11:21 Night owl?
11:21 Theater or movie?
11:23 Theater.
11:24 Quiet or loud?
11:26 Quiet.
11:26 Handsome or handsome?
11:27 Handsome.
11:28 Serious or playful?
11:30 Serious.
11:30 Many awards or a lot of money?
11:33 That's hard.
11:34 [LAUGHTER]
11:36 Awards?
11:37 Strong willedness or strong appeal?
11:39 Strong willedness.
11:40 Best actor or best boyfriend?
11:42 Best boyfriend, I think.
11:43 Do you expect Metro Manila Film Festival best actor?
11:47 No.
11:48 Handsomer, Enchong or you?
11:51 Him.
11:51 Handsomer, Enchong or you?
11:53 [LAUGHTER]
11:58 Enchong.
11:59 Enchong.
11:59 Your hidden talent?
12:02 Dancing.
12:03 Your guilty pleasure?
12:04 Guilty pleasure, private time?
12:08 Wildest thing you've done?
12:10 Wildest thing I've done?
12:14 Oh my God.
12:16 I drove drunk.
12:17 Free-- don't do that again.
12:19 Yes, yes, definitely.
12:20 Trip for two.
12:21 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
12:23 What's that?
12:23 Sorry?
12:24 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
12:27 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
12:30 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
12:31 You will trade lives with someone.
12:33 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
12:36 Anthony Hopkins.
12:37 Wow.
12:38 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
12:42 Definitely, bahay.
12:43 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
12:46 Tokyo.
12:47 Cedric, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] are you single or taken?
12:50 I'm taken.
12:52 Lights on or lights off?
12:53 Lights on.
12:54 Happiness or chocolates?
12:56 Happiness.
12:56 Best time for happiness?
12:58 Best time for happiness with friends and family
13:00 and circular friends.
13:01 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:03 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:14 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:15 My God.
13:15 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:18 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:21 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:22 I wore these in one of my shows.
13:24 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:29 It's like a sutana, Tito.
13:30 A couple of things I want to talk to you about.
13:34 Cedric, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] what's next?
13:36 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:38 Yes, yes, yes.
13:39 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:42 I know your girlfriend may be watching.
13:44 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:45 Is it true?
13:45 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:47 And is it true now?
13:49 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:50 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:51 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:52 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:53 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:54 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:55 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
13:56 [MUSIC PLAYING]
14:07 We're back in the show with Cedric Juan, best actor,
14:13 Metro Manila Film Festival 2023.
14:16 In one of your interviews, you mentioned [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:20 I'm willing to do theater.
14:22 I'm even willing to still do nude scenes.
14:26 Why did you say that in that interview?
14:28 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:31 So you tell stories, you represent.
14:35 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:37 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:47 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:49 To tell that story.
14:51 And I think there's nothing wrong with that,
14:54 with doing nudities or even--
14:58 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:00 When it comes to doing LGBT roles.
15:02 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:05 I know you're familiar with materials like Equius,
15:07 for example, on stage.
15:09 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:13 If I was an actor, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:16 boundaries for as long as--
15:18 For as long as justified [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:21 and [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:22 exploitation.
15:23 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:24 The way you talk with your director or writer,
15:26 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:29 You would know.
15:31 You would know.
15:32 What is next?
15:34 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:37 management.
15:38 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:41 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:43 genuine thoughts for me.
15:45 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:47 idea for his company.
15:48 Correct.
15:49 That was six years ago.
15:50 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:53 just to fill--
15:55 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:56 Right.
15:57 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:59 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:01 hypothetical [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:05 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:11 Well, actually, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:18 Top of mind.
16:19 Names.
16:20 Top of mind.
16:21 Bianca Umali.
16:22 Yeah.
16:23 I think one of the--
16:24 That would be interesting.
16:25 [INAUDIBLE]
16:26 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:28 So there is no way that you're going to keep that privacy.
16:33 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:34 with humility when you said, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:38 And that's over.
16:39 Because now, you're the threshold of something really big.
16:44 Are you ready?
16:46 I mean, I don't know if you can ever be ready to lose that part.
16:49 You have become public.
16:51 Are you comfortable now with the concept of fame,
16:54 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:55 which is an entirely different concept.
16:57 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:58 You wanted to be an actor, but that's changing.
17:02 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:07 Not this.
17:08 Not physical.
17:09 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:11 So if ever [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:15 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:19 And I think, Tito Boy, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:26 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:29 But I really want to keep my privacy then.
17:32 And at the same time, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:37 And a large part of that will depend on you.
17:39 You mentioned the name of Anthony Hopkins.
17:41 It's possible.
17:42 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:43 Daniel Day Lewis.
17:44 I mean, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:47 That's possible.
17:48 That will depend on how you would manage your life.
17:52 OK.
17:53 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:54 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:55 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:56 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:57 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:58 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:59 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:00 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:01 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:02 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:03 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:04 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:05 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:06 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:07 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:08 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:09 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:10 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:11 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:12 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:13 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:14 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:15 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:16 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:17 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I wanna name it.
18:20 (speaking in foreign language)
18:22 Are you friends today?
18:23 Yeah, friends.
18:24 (speaking in foreign language)
18:28 That's clear.
18:30 Yeah.
18:31 (speaking in foreign language)
18:34 I don't know how serious it was,
18:35 but that's why I phrased my question that way.
18:38 So it doesn't make sense anymore
18:39 if I ask (speaking in foreign language)
18:41 (laughing)
18:43 (speaking in foreign language)
18:45 Oh my God. (speaking in foreign language)
18:48 And you would also go into something like comedy.
18:51 I think that's the hardest genre of acting for me.
18:55 Once again, thank everybody and invite everybody.
18:58 (speaking in foreign language)
19:02 (speaking in foreign language)
19:06, well, (speaking in foreign language)
19:11 (speaking in foreign language)
19:15 And it's still relevant.
19:22 (speaking in foreign language)
19:26 (laughing)
19:35 (speaking in foreign language)
19:40 (speaking in foreign language)
19:44 And it's time to go and it's time for you to go.
19:51 Okay, is it clear?
19:52 Four, three, two, one, action.
19:56 (speaking in foreign language)
19:59 You have to go.
20:00 (speaking in foreign language)
20:06 (speaking in foreign language)
20:10 You have to go.
20:11 (speaking in foreign language)
20:14 Wait, wait, wait, wait.
20:15 Boy.
20:17 (speaking in foreign language)
20:22 I guess, yes.
20:30 (speaking in foreign language)
20:34 Don't touch me.
20:36 (speaking in foreign language)
20:40 I know you have someone else.
20:43 Go, go.
20:44 (speaking in foreign language)
20:48 Don't you dare come back and don't you dare touch me.
20:58 Go, go, go.
20:59 Go.
21:00 (cheering)
21:02 (speaking in foreign language)
21:07 Thank you so much, Juan.
21:08 Thank you.
21:09 (speaking in foreign language)
21:10 Cedric Juan, ladies and gentlemen.
21:13 (cheering)
21:13 (speaking in foreign language)
