Hero Dad Saves a Mum and Her Toddler After He Saw Their Car Being Swept Away in a Flooded River

Credit: SWNS / Tia Draper  A hero dad has told how he saved a woman and her three-year-old daughter after he saw their car being swept away in a flooded river.  Liam Stych, 28, leapt into the raging torrent after hearing the woman screaming “Help me, help me, please save my baby!”  Dramatic video shows the woman’s car being dragged under a footbridge as floods surged through Hall Green in Birmingham at 4.15pm on Tuesday (2/1).  The fearless dad dangled off the bridge and smashed the rear passenger window and used ratchet straps to lash the woman’s Fiat Punto to railings to stop it sinking.  Incredibly, he saved the little girl by "hurling" her into the lap of his pregnant partner Tia Draper, 27, who was standing on the bridge.

01:11 The car then eventually got to the current, the side of the river.

01:15 As soon as the car got there, the current took the car, it hit the bridge.

01:20 At that point then she said I've got a child in the car.

01:25 I acted on that and got the baby out as soon as I could.

01:28 The car was then moving on every movement that she was making.

01:31 I went to my mind, got a ratchet strap, secured the car to the bridge

01:36 and then in the process of doing that got the woman out of the sand tunnel.
