I Turned A Boat Into A Car | Ridiculous Rides
IF you’ve ever found yourself in Spokane, Washington, the chances are you’ve come across La Boata - the city’s famous car. Tim Lorentz, the owner of this unique vehicle, bought himself a speedboat for $100 and a Chrysler LeBaron for $700 and merged them together, creating a ride so remarkable that you barely notice La Boata’s tyres when it’s cruising down the highway.

00:56 had to be inexpensive
00:57 because my wife
00:58 wouldn't let me
00:59 spend the money.
01:00 I found that convertible,
01:01 a Baron, for $700,
01:02 right around the corner,
01:03 in fact.
01:04 And once I had procured that,
01:06 then I went and looked
01:07 for the boat.
01:09 I ended up having to buy
01:10 this one for $100,
01:11 and when I had them both,
01:12 then that's when
01:13 I started the project.
01:15 It only took me three days
01:16 to actually complete it.
01:18 I knew that I was going to have
01:19 to cut all around
01:21 the bottom of the boat
01:23 so that I could
01:24 just have the shell.
01:25 It was not fun,
01:26 it was hot out,
01:28 and those two days of cutting,
01:30 it was long and itchy.

01:34 The LeBaron is the basic
01:35 power plant underneath there.
01:38 It is a front-wheel drive
01:39 V6 3-liter engine,
01:42 20 miles a gallon
01:43 around town,
01:44 25 on the highway.
01:46 Speed-wise,
01:48 I think I got it up
01:49 to 100 miles an hour.
01:50 Don't really think I need to
01:52 or want to go
01:53 any faster than that.
01:56 Handles like a boat,
01:57 pretty much.
01:58 You've probably added
01:59 400 or 500 pounds on it.

02:04 but you kind of just
02:05 get used to driving it.

02:09 because I'm crazy,
02:10 or just laugh
02:11 because it's just a fun thing.

02:17 Recently, I hooked up
02:18 a windshield washer to that,
02:19 so the water shoots 30 feet.
02:21 I can turn the out-drive
02:22 this way and that way,
02:24 and that way I can squirt people
02:25 on both sides of the sidewalk.

02:34 almost every day.
02:36 It has a top that you can put up,
02:38 so it can be
02:39 self-contained and heated,
02:41 but most of the time,
02:42 I like to drive it
02:43 when the weather's nice.

02:49 riding in it
02:50 because it does attract
02:51 too much attention.

02:55 in the parking lot,
02:56 and usually when you come back,
02:57 you find a small crowd of people

03:18 My wife tolerates the car.

03:22 getting in and out of it
03:23 because there's no lady-like way
03:26 of climbing over the side.
03:28 It's not her favorite car.
03:31 I've done rides for charity,
03:33 and that's kind of my main thing
03:34 to keep my wife happy
03:36 because she thinks
03:37 it's all about me.
