North west news update 3 Jan 2024: Police launch huge raid on home

00:00 Hello and welcome, these are the top headlines making the news today from our newsrooms across the North West.
00:06 People were told to stay in their homes and lock their doors when more than 20 police officers raided a house in St Anne's on New Year's Eve.
00:13 Residents were alarmed when a fleet of police cars and vans blocked off both ends of Kenilworth Road at around 9.30pm on Sunday.
00:20 Officers forced their way inside one of the homes but the person they were looking for was not found.
00:25 Police left at around midnight after nearly two and a half hours at the scene.
00:30 A warning has been issued for dogs to be kept on leads at Cureton Valley Park.
00:34 It comes after two separate incidents where sheep have been attacked.
00:37 The first incident took place when a dog being walked off the lead entered a sheep field at around 9am on Monday December 11th.
00:43 The dog chased and attacked the flock, seriously injuring five ewes and one ram. Three later died.
00:50 A Wigan borough man has admitted failing to comply with the requirements of the Sex Offenders Register.
00:55 65-year-old Ian Rigby of Cosworth Close in Leigh did not sign onto the register within the required time period.
01:01 He also pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order by using a computer or other device capable of accessing the internet.
01:08 Rigby will be sentenced at Manchester City Magistrates' Court on January 29th.
01:13 A meeting is to be held this weekend to discuss a planning application to build a wedding venue on the Burnley and Pendle border.
01:19 Plans have been submitted to Pendle Borough Council to create a large outdoor wedding venue with a glass marquee next to Nelson Golf Club.
01:26 The application has met with a mixed response, with many residents concerned around traffic noise issues that could be associated with the site should it come to fruition.

01:38 St John's Hospice's popular New Year's Day dip returned to start 2024 with hundreds of people signing up for a dip in Morecambe Bay to raise money to provide care for palliative patients and their families.
01:50 Experienced wild swimmers took to the sea in wetsuits, some braved it in swimwear and many others were sponsored to do the dip in fancy dress.
01:57 More people than ever got into the sea in the name of a good cause and were blessed with some sunshine as they braved the cold icy winds.
02:05 In the weather today, Wednesday, somewhat brighter than of late with a mixture of cloud and sunny spells, but look out for the occasional heavy downpour.
02:14 Pretty mixed bag on Thursday too with scattered showers and sunny intervals and a maximum temperature of 7 degrees.
