Over the last year we've managed to complete three or four challenges that has raised over £950,000
00:30
to support the Quick DNA project.
00:32
Coming into 2024, our next challenge will be our biggest one
00:36
and one we're really looking for support and help from people all across Wales.
00:40
The aim of this walk is to raise over £500,000 for the newly created Maxwell Family Genomics Fund,
00:45
which is part of Velindre Cancer Centre, where I'm having all my treatments and being amazingly looked after.
00:51
The aim of the Maxwell Family Genomics Fund will be to continue to support All Wales Genomics
00:55
and Velindre Cancer Centre in their ambition to speed up the cancer diagnosis pathway in Wales.
01:00
The aim is to walk over 780 miles of the Welsh coastal path in 26 days.
01:05
The reason why it's 780 miles is it represents the 78 days it took for me to get diagnosed
01:11
and the reason we're going to try and do it in 26 days is because that is the length of time
01:15
that will reduce the diagnosis time for lung cancer when the Quick DNA project pilot finishes
01:19
and hopefully becomes part of the cancer pathway.
01:22
But the reality of it is, with old injuries and with my cancer treatments currently,
01:26
it's unlikely that I'll be able to walk every day.
01:28
So each day we'll be joined by a Welsh celebrity and 30 fellow walkers
01:32
that hopefully will help us to complete the journey from the north to the south of Wales.
01:37
We'll be carrying with us the match ball for the Wales-France game,
01:41
which kicks off at 2.30pm on the 10th of March.
01:44
And the aim is for that ball to be relayed with myself, the celebrity and the 30 fellow walkers
01:49
all over those 26 days back to the stadium for Isla and Zac, my daughter and son,
01:54
to walk onto the stadium with the match ball for the game.
01:57
We hope that you can join us and if you would like to sign up,
02:00
please go to www.maxwell.foundation.
02:04
It'll be a great event. We can't control the weather,
02:06
but our ambition will be to walk each and every day regardless.
02:09
We really do hope that you can join us and please sign up.
02:12
I look forward to seeing you on the walk in the new year.
02:14
Happy New Year!
