00:10 Hi, my name is Lena Hudson and I am the writer and director of Daddy's Girl,
00:17 which is premiering in the short film section of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
00:25 So Daddy's Girl follows a young woman, Allison, and her charming but overbearing father
00:34 as he helps her move out of her wealthy, older boyfriend's apartment.
00:39 It is about fathers and daughters, and it's about self-deceit and sort of what we're willing to see
00:48 and not see in the people that we love.
00:51 Also, it's funny. I hope it's funny.
00:55 The first person I brought onto the project was Tedra Milan, who plays Allison.
00:59 I had seen her in The Wolves off-Broadway and I loved her performance so much.
01:04 And I didn't know her, so I just reached out to her through Instagram,
01:07 as I like to call him, National Treasure Peter Friedman.
01:10 I read the script and liked it enough to say yes, which was very kind of him.
01:16 I think he's really great at making it. I learned a lot working with him.
01:19 Guess what? He's very talented.
01:21 Her name is Fletcher Wolfe.
01:23 We kept using this word "murky." Everything was very murky.
01:27 The majority of the film takes place inside a single apartment.
01:31 It's somewhere sort of Brooklyn brownstone in the summer,
01:33 and we sort of talked a lot about the ways in which interiors can be dark,
01:39 the ways in which Robert and Allison can see and not see each other.
01:43 So that's it. I think that's it.
01:46 I don't know. Dad, do you have anything you want to add?
01:49 You've seen the movie.
01:50 It's great.
01:51 Oh, thanks.
01:53 Father approved.
01:55 You're better than your preparing.
01:56 It's not about you, Dad.
01:58 Not everything is about you, okay?
02:00 [laughter]
02:02 Just kidding.
