“Every new technology has its pros and cons. There’s huge upside with AI, and then there are some disadvantages…But by far—orders of magnitude—the higher risk to worry about is China, not sentient AI killing us.”

00:00 The risk of sentient AI killing us exists,
00:04 but it's about the same as the risk of asteroid
00:06 hitting our planet and destroying us all also.
00:10 You have to characterize risks properly.
00:13 The risk of China is humongous.
00:16 First, next year, I'd be surprised
00:19 if there aren't 100 million or more bots
00:22 with persuasive AI, one-on-one engaging with every voter
00:27 trying to influence our election for their purposes.
00:30 That's very likely to happen.
00:32 I'd say probably a 95% probability
00:35 it'll be influential in the election,
00:39 and we should be worrying about it.
00:41 Over the next 25 years, whoever wins the AI race
00:46 will win the economic race.
00:47 So economic wins and power will derive from technology wins,
00:54 and I think it's up for grabs who wins in the next 20 years.
00:58 And whoever wins the economic race
01:00 will have social influence,
01:03 and I think whether the world believes in Western values
01:07 in Southeast Asia, in Africa, in Latin America, everywhere,
01:11 or believes in chi philosophy,
01:13 which is some combination of Tiananmen Square-type tactics,
01:17 dictatorship, and a reasonable philosophy
01:20 that I don't care about the bottom 5% we abuse,
01:24 but the society as a whole is better off to give him credit.
01:28 That's sort of his political philosophy.
01:30 I don't like that one, but which one wins
01:34 is what sets stake over the next couple of decades.
