"I spent seven days in silence at a Bali retreat - then a gecko woke me up"

This is the moment a woman was woken by a noisy gecko - after spending a WEEK in complete silence.

Dasia Washington, 31, had spent seven days in solitude at a $150 per-night retreat in Bali.

But the quiet was shattered when she heard the loud chirps of a gecko - at 1am.

Dasia, from Chattanooga, Tennessee, considered complaining to management.

But she soon thought better of it - realising there was little they could do.

Dasia said: "It was a silent retreat - so it was the first noise I had heard in a week or so.

"I get up early and it was so loud and so close that I couldn't ignore it.

"I first heard the noise at 1 or 2am. It definitely woke me up. It was so surprisingly loud."

Dasia realised notifying staff would have been useless as all the rooms were open-air.

So she tried to block out the noise - and got back to sleep.

She said: "I managed to get to sleep. It was a moment of acceptance that you can't control everything.

"When I first checked in another guest was freaking out because the rooms were on the border of the jungle.

"She asked what to do if a snake got in the room and the lady at the check-in turned around grinning.

"She said: 'Walk heavily, we're in their house."

"I was replaying that in my head so I made peace that [the gecko] was my new roomie.
