00:12 A Chinese cargo vessel hits a Filipino fishing boat in Occidental Mindoro, prompting the
00:17 PCG to contact China.
00:19 The AFP says authorities have arrested an alleged accomplice in the Marawi bombing.
00:24 Grab commuters may face longer waiting time this Christmas, an effect of the corruption
00:28 mess in the LTFRB.
00:30 MEDA's Oversight Board is set to examine handling of violent content in the Israel-Hamas
00:35 war.
00:36 The Philippines wins four major awards in the 2023 World Travel Awards.
00:42 Pantone reveals its 2024 Color of the Year.
00:46 And Tito Soto, Vic Soto, and Joey De Leon win another trademark case against tape.
00:53 The Philippine Coast Guard is in communication with China following an alleged allusion between
00:58 a small Filipino fishing boat, the FBCA Ruel J, and a Chinese-flagged bull carrier off
01:04 the coast of Palawan, Occidental Mindoro.
01:07 Allusion refers to an incident at sea when a vessel hits a stationary object.
01:11 The Ruel J was allegedly hit by the MV Taihan 8 at around 4pm on Tuesday, December 5, while
01:17 it was attached to a payaw, a traditional fishing device.
01:21 The five fisherfolk were rescued by the PCG on December 6, while the damaged vessel was
01:25 towed back to shore by another fishing boat.
01:28 PCG spokesperson Rear Admiral Arman Balilio says China has already been informed of the
01:33 incident.
01:34 Balilio points out that according to laws and norms of the sea, it should have been
01:38 the MV Taihan 8's responsibility to rescue the crew of the Ruel J.
01:45 The military arrests a man believed to be an accomplice in a deadly bombing during a
01:49 mass at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City that killed at least four people.
01:54 Authorities arrest Jafar Gamo Sultan with the aliases "Jar" and "Korot" three
01:58 days after the blast.
02:00 The Armed Forces of the Philippines says the suspect is the companion of a certain Omar,
02:05 whom witnesses identified as the person who placed an improvised explosive device inside
02:09 the MSU gymnasium last December 3.
02:12 CCTV footage released by the AFP supposedly shows the suspected terrorist inside the MSU
02:18 Marawi campus on the morning of the bombing.
02:21 The AFP says this development "shows the seriousness of the government in capturing
02:25 the perpetrators and in ensuring that it will not happen again."
02:31 Grab users might have to wait longer for their rides during the holiday season after a corruption
02:36 scandal delayed Grab's plans for a holiday fleet.
02:39 As demand for Grab cars soars in December, it usually activates a holiday fleet of additional
02:45 but temporary drivers.
02:47 Grab Philippines country head Grace Vera Cruz says, "We don't have a holiday fleet.
02:51 We asked for it."
02:53 The recent corruption allegations that rocked the LTFRB disrupted talks with Grab for a
02:58 month.
02:59 That scandal led President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to suspend LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadis
03:05 III.
03:06 The allegations have since been withdrawn and Guadis is back with the LTFRB.
03:10 Cruz adds the Christmas traffic reduces by half a Grab driver's trips in a day.
03:15 Grab says that even if the government approves additional units now, it would be hard-pressed
03:20 to find drivers willing to work for a month.
03:25 MEDA's Independent Oversight Board says it will review how the company handled violent
03:29 content on its social media platforms in two cases involving hostage-taking and bombing
03:34 in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
03:36 The cases will be the first to use a new expedited review mechanism that requires the board to
03:41 decide within 30 days instead of the usual several months.
03:45 The board's decision to take on the cases comes as social media platforms are flooded
03:49 with violent, hateful and misleading content about the war.
03:53 Meantime, the head of Swiss medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors Without
03:58 Borders, says Gaza faces a catastrophe extending far beyond a humanitarian crisis.
04:04 The medical group says, "Very soon people will be in a mode of just trying to survive,
04:08 which will come with very severe consequences."
04:12 The United Nations says 85% of the 2.3 million population in Gaza are homeless due to the
04:18 ongoing war.
04:21 The Philippines brings home a total of four major awards from the World Travel Awards
04:25 2023, held at the Burj Al Arab in Dubai on Friday, December 1.
04:31 The Philippines is crowned world's leading beach destination, a title it holds for the
04:35 second straight year.
04:37 The country also solidifies its place in the category of diving, as it is named the world's
04:41 leading diving destination, a title it holds since 2019.
04:45 Meantime, for the first time ever, Manila is hailed the world's leading city destination,
04:51 beating contender cities from the US, Mexico, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
04:56 The Philippines also receives the special Global Tourism Resilience Award, which was
05:00 only given to four other countries.
05:03 Dubbed the travel industry's most prestigious awards program, the WTA annually recognizes
05:08 countries, cities, establishments, services, airlines and magazines for excellence in travel,
05:14 tourism and hospitality.
05:18 Pantone Color Institute announces "Peach Fuzz" is the 2024 Color of the Year.
05:23 Pantone describes "Peach Fuzz" as a "velvety, gentle peach whose all-embracing spirit enriches
05:29 mind, body and heart."
05:31 "Peach Fuzz" is also dubbed by Pantone as a "gift to the senses," which allows
05:35 it to create a "symbiotic relationship between our sense of taste, sight, touch and scent."
05:41 Based in New Jersey, the Pantone Color Institute is best known for its color forecasts and
05:46 color matching system.
05:47 It has been naming the Color of the Year since 2000 by analyzing trends in entertainment,
05:52 fashion, branding and social media.
05:55 Its very first Color of the Year was Cerulean.
05:57 2023's Color of the Year was Viva Magenta, a shade of vivid crimson.
06:05 Comedians Tito Soto, Vic Soto and Joey De Leon win another trademark dispute, this time
06:10 involving De Leon's bid to get a trademark registration for Itbolaga for entertainment
06:15 purposes such as TV shows.
06:17 On X, Tito Soto says production company Tape's appeal has been "dismissed."
06:22 Earlier, an intellectual property of the Philippines' adjudicator ruled in favor of the comedians
06:27 in their bid to cancel Tape's trademark registration of Itbolaga and the acronym EB for merchandise
06:33 goods.
06:34 Tape claimed that the battle is not over since the case can be appealed all the way to the
06:38 Supreme Court.
06:40 Since Tape continues to use Itbolaga and EB on its noon show, the La Cruces, Tito Vic
06:44 and Joey, or TVJ, will seek an injunction from a Marikina court.
06:48 TVJ had a bitter dispute with Tape's owner, Romeo Jalasjo Sr., which prompted the group's
06:53 exit from the production company in May.
06:58 And that's today's Wrap.
