Dr. Pooja Tripathi - Spokesperson, Congres weighs in and says the govt is targeting its critics while several others are getting scot-free even if they make bigger blunders. This as TMC MP Mahua Moitra faced expulsion from Lok Sabha. The Ethics Committee's report on the "cash-for-query" case recommended her removal. The report, citing "unethical conduct," called for an intense government inquiry. The committee's 6:4 majority approval triggered a walkout by the opposition.

00:00 Dr. Pooja Tripathi, what has happened today?
00:02 Many are calling it vindication of parliamentary justice.
00:09 Many would call it unfortunate and a victim of circumstances.
00:14 How does Congress view it?
00:15 How do you view it, being a woman yourself?
00:18 And does this set a right example?
00:23 [INAUDIBLE]
00:23 I want to quote Mahua here again,
00:26 who said that [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:35 104 page committee's report were tabled at 12 PM.
00:39 The member of parliaments were not even given time
00:42 to go through the report.
00:44 And then at 2 PM, with a voice vote--
00:46 everyone knows what's happening with voice votes--
00:48 with a voice vote, BJP--
00:50 I say BJP.
00:51 I have no qualms in accepting that--
00:52 BJP expels-- the Lok Sabha speaker expels Mahua from saying.
00:57 And Mahua was not given time to say anything.
01:00 What was the reason given that she'll invoke Durga Maa,
01:03 she'll create drama?
01:05 And the irony of this whole situation
01:08 is Brij Bhushan Charan Singh, the one who
01:11 has abused our national pride, the one who has abused
01:15 the heroes of our country, the women ministers,
01:17 is sitting in the same parliament.
01:19 Ramesh Budhri, who calls a fellow parliament a [NON-ENGLISH]
01:23 and whatnot, is sitting in the same parliament
01:26 and a woman MP is not given time to represent herself.
01:31 Danshan Hira Nandani is not crossed.
01:33 A woman MP is not even allowed to speak.
01:35 What do we call this trampling of democracy that happened there?
01:41 I think it's outrageous the way Mahua has been expelled.
01:44 And when her anger, her ire, the way injustice is meted out
01:51 to her is so, so true.
01:54 Dr. Tripathi, you're right.
01:56 I mean, see, when I say you are right,
01:58 I'm completely reading out the sentiments.
02:02 But Mahua Moitra, once again, talking about the panels--
02:06 and I haven't had the, I would say, the opportunity
02:09 to be a part of one.
02:12 But there was allocated timings given to her.
02:16 And in the month of November, the very first week
02:19 when she appeared, I distinctly remember the way
02:21 she came out of the panel, that meeting.
02:25 Yes, she did make claims that unethical questions were
02:30 being asked ungentlemanly of the chair of the panel.
02:34 Yet by the standards, by the rules,
02:38 that was the time when her side of the story
02:41 could have been put.
02:42 Do you believe that it was a lost chance?
02:45 It's like crying over spilt milk to say these things now
02:49 that she was not allowed to cross-question the two
02:52 individuals who deposed against her.
02:56 The biggest irony here is, Pankaj,
02:58 she was not allowed to speak on her motion that
03:02 caused her to expel.
03:03 I mean, she is an elected member of parliament, for God's sake.
03:07 She represents the whole constituency.
03:09 She represents the aspirations, and she
03:11 represents the voting of the whole constituency.
03:14 Many people have backed her.
03:15 And it's her right.
03:17 It's her right as an MP, not as an opposition MP, nothing.
03:20 It's her right as an MP standing in the temple of democracy
03:24 that she be allowed to speak.
03:26 She was not allowed to speak.
03:27 I don't know which part of democracy,
03:29 where do you say that that has been held?
03:32 I am with you.
03:33 I'm with you here, Dr. Tripathi.
03:35 In the corporate setup--
03:36 let me complete, Pankaj.
03:37 Even in the corporate setup, if you raise a complaint,
03:40 there are two sides of it.
03:42 The one against whom action has been taken,
03:46 he or she is allowed to make a statement.
03:48 She was not-- a sitting member of parliament
03:51 was not allowed to make a statement.
03:53 I think this shows that we are living
03:56 in a state of emergency, where anybody who
03:59 questions the government, anybody who
04:01 tries to demand accountability, anyone who
04:03 tries to raise his voice will be trampled upon the way
04:06 Mahua Maitra has been done today.
