Greece and Turkey agree to reboot relations following landmark talks in Athens

In a landmark visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Athens, the two countries agreed to boost trade and establish communication channels between coastguards to tackle the issue of migration.

00:19 "In the migrant crisis, we have seen a significant decrease in the number of migrants in the

00:26 region, which is a result of the systematic protection of our coasts and our maritime

00:33 borders.

00:34 This is due to the much better cooperation of the police, the coastguard and the coast

00:39 guard, and this cooperation can and should be improved even more."

00:43 In a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis, Erdogan said there was

00:47 no problem that couldn't be resolved between them.

00:50 "We want to make Aegean a peaceful and cooperative sea.

00:57 We want to set an example to the world with the joint steps we will take as Turkey and

01:04 Greece.

01:05 I am telling you frankly, there is no problem that cannot be resolved between us."

01:14 But differences do remain, especially over Cyprus.

01:17 Ankara favours a fair solution "based on the realities of the island", implying a two-state

01:24 solution.

01:25 Athens, meanwhile, says the only solution is based on the reunification of the island,

01:30 based on the UN resolutions.

01:38 relations and good neighborhoods between Greece and Turkey, with which both sides seal their

01:43 commitment to a peaceful water in the Aegean, to maintain the peaceful climate that Athens

01:50 and Ankara have maintained in recent months, as well as to further build trust between

01:55 the two sides."
