Egypt launches remote sensing satellite into orbit with Chinese assistance

China helped Egypt launch and orbit a remote sensing satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The device, named MISRSAT-2, will be used in land and resource utilization, water conservation, agriculture and other fields in Egypt. teleSUR

00:10 The CEO of the Egyptian space agency, EXAS, Shourab Tekli, said in an interview with the

00:15 China Global Television Network that Egypt's cooperation with China in the field of space

00:19 technology has been successful with significant knowledge transfer and capacity building.

00:24 On Monday, China had Egypt send a remote sensing satellite into orbit from the

00:28 Kuyan Satellite Launch Center in northeastern China. The satellite will be used in the Egypt's

00:34 land and resources utilization, water conservancy, agriculture, and other fields.

00:38 "So using the satellite we can monitor the urban development, we can determine the

00:47 changes in the water level in the river line, which is very important for us.

00:51 We can monitor the agriculture, so we can determine the crop distribution across the country,

00:57 which means that we can build applications on the images, which means that we can task whatever we

01:05 need within the country and within the region also. We can also serve Africa with this satellite.

01:11 The resolution of this satellite is quite high as compared to the previous

01:16 civilian satellites that we have. So having a two-meter resolution will serve a broad sector

01:21 of interest for the different governmental entities and for the different users of the

01:28 satellite imagery."

01:31 Why was Sherif Sari stated that this project is the beginning of the collaboration with China?

01:37 "The knowledge transfer that we have seen from the Chinese side is really, really

01:42 marvelous and we greatly appreciate it. So this project is very, very successful.

01:48 So it was a very good capacity building experience for us. We consider this project

01:54 as the start of the collaboration with China and actually are looking forward to deepening

01:58 this collaboration and considering more capitalization on the experience that we gain

02:05 from MASTERCED II and from the AIT. So together we can just do more deepening of technology transfer

02:12 and more work on different types of satellites. And that's our future plans and that's what we

02:18 are planning to discuss together with the Chinese part, just to continue this collaboration

02:22 for the benefit of both countries, China and Egypt."
