00:00 Hello it's Michael Plant coming to you from a very cold Goodison Park after this afternoon.
00:05 Manchester United beat Everton 3-0 in the Premier League.
00:08 But I think it's a game that will be remembered for years to come for an absolutely incredible goal from Alejandro Garnacho.
00:14 Just after three minutes the winger was picked out of the back post to cross from Diogo Dalot.
00:19 Actually he could play from United in general in the build up to the goal.
00:21 But Dalot clipped the ball to the back post and the ball was kind of almost coming away from Garnacho.
00:25 Almost going over his head and he arced his back, overhead kick, a superb goal.
00:30 I mean one of the all time Premier League greats potentially.
00:33 It feels like a shoe game for goal of the season when we're talking that kind of level.
00:37 Absolutely phenomenal goal from Alejandro Garnacho and obviously certainly the best he's ever scored in his career.
00:43 And the stadium just completely went silent after that goal.
00:47 An honourable, certainly from the Everton end anyway.
00:49 But a fantastic goal from Garnacho, really really phenomenal as I say.
00:54 It was a game that United actually, that goal proved really significant for United because it came after just three minutes as I say.
01:00 And three minutes that, you know, there was a really intimidating atmosphere here for Manchester United and their players.
01:05 Because Everton of course, this is the first game that they've been at home since the decision to dock them ten points from the Premier League.
01:11 And to say Everton are furious about that decision is putting it mildly.
01:14 The fans here, let me just reach across and show you what they held up.
01:18 Bear with me two seconds, I can't quite reach.
01:22 There we go, hold on. They were holding up these banners, corrupt.
01:26 Which obviously shows what they think of the Premier League and the decision as I say to dock them those ten points.
01:33 There was, those flyers were held up, there was booing of the Premier League when the little banner was put out.
01:42 When the anthem was played, that was booed.
01:44 There were actually fireworks going off inside the stadium.
01:46 There were plenty of chants, I can't repeat, in regards to the thought of how the Premier League run and administered.
01:53 And there was certainly actually a lot of frustration towards the referee as well and some of the decisions he made in the game.
01:58 Overall, Everton fans were really, really angry.
02:00 Even a couple of fireworks were let off outside.
02:02 I didn't see what happened pre-match but I know there was a march organised before the game.
02:06 And I think the fans met the Everton team boss as well.
02:10 So a really intimidating atmosphere.
02:11 And that goal after just three minutes really quieted it down.
02:14 And from there United started pretty well in the game in the first 20 minutes.
02:17 And then actually the following 20 minutes, and certainly the second half of the first half if that makes sense,
02:22 Everton were by far on top, produced ten shots, were very unfortunate to go in at half-time losing.
02:29 One nil, that's still us from the Garnaccio goal.
02:32 But some really good chances covered.
02:33 Lewin had a couple that he was really unfortunate not to score from.
02:36 There was a double one as well from Jack Harrison, he came very close as well.
02:40 And I actually thought at half-time, this is pretty terrible from United once again.
02:44 A lack of fight, a lack of passion, a lack of desire.
02:46 Again, not a particularly great build-up play.
02:51 But to be fair to United, the second half was quite good actually.
02:54 There was a bit more battle, a bit more fight.
02:56 And certainly Everton wilted if I'm honest.
02:59 I thought Everton were really poor in the second half, a really disappointing performance from them.
03:02 But United at the very least matched Everton's level and quietened what was a really, as I say, intimidating atmosphere.
03:09 But Marks Rashford actually netted for United just his second goal of the season.
03:15 Incredibly considering he scored 30 last season.
03:18 Anthony Martial won a penalty, it's a bit of a contentious one.
03:22 Martial was actually initially booked for Dijon and then a referee check and a challenge from Ashley Young meant that the penalty was given.
03:32 I thought that the yellow card was very harsh initially for Martial.
03:36 But I also was kind of surprised that it was one that was seen as so strong that it had to be overturned, if that makes sense, from VAR.
03:44 And I was surprised it was overturned because it was a bit of a soft penalty.
03:47 Likewise, it would have been given a penalty initially.
03:50 I wouldn't be surprised if it had been overturned then.
03:52 Anyway, the penalty was given.
03:55 Bruno Fernandes, we all thought was going to take it, but he handed the ball to Marks Rashford who kind of coolly and calmly slotted it past Jordan Pickford.
04:01 And then a third goal came later on via Anthony Martial.
04:04 Bruno Fernandes flicked the ball to him and a nice little finish passed Pickford to just his first Premier League goal of the season as well.
04:11 United came into this game, and it's a big positive for them tonight, United came into this game with just one goal for all their attackers in the Premier League this season.
04:18 They're now in fourth, that's three alone tonight.
04:20 So that was a really big positive for United.
04:22 I think the fact that they could deal with this crowd and ultimately produce quite a good second half display, Tenhag will be really pleased with that as well.
04:28 But overall I still think there's a lot of issues for United and lots of disappointing aspects from this game in my eyes.
04:35 And certainly things that they need to put right.
04:37 I think 'paper and a rugged crack' is a phrase that's been used quite a lot with United, it's another one I would use tonight, even if the second half display was slightly better.
04:45 Now the standout performer for me was Kobe Mane who came in for his first ever Premier League start.
04:50 Superb at the base of midfield, really controlled the tempo of United's passing, but really calm and composed at the base of midfield.
04:57 Put in some good tackles, was agile on the ball.
04:59 I think Tenhag will be absolutely delighted with the performance he put in.
05:02 Especially given United had a lot of issues in midfield this campaign.
05:05 So for him to start and play so well, he's fantastic for United.
05:08 And just one other line is that Anthony, he pulled out with a slight knock for United, which is a big blow.
05:15 Well, I say it's a big blow, not the way he's been playing this season.
05:18 But certainly given the attacking numbers that they have at the moment, Rasmus Voorlens out.
05:22 So to have Anthony, another forward not available is a blow for United.
05:25 Especially going into such a big week, two big away games now.
05:28 Well, that's one of the three big away games that United played.
05:31 Here first at Goodison, next off to Galatasaray, a must-win Champions League game.
05:35 Before they go to Newcastle next Saturday.
05:37 So the games keep coming thick and fast for Manchester United.
05:40 But overall tonight, I think an OK night.
05:43 The 3-0 scoreline perhaps flatters them, ever actually have more shots on the night, which I think also tells part of the story.
05:49 I think Andrea Nanna put in another good display.
05:51 Some positives for United tonight, but still a lot of concerning aspects of that performance, in my opinion.
