  • last year
Bristol City will see Liam Manning take charge of his first game at Ashton Gate against Middlesbrough, whilst Bristol Rovers, still without a manager, face Derby County.
Transcript
00:00 Since becoming Bristol City manager, Liam Manning has only had one fixture in charge of the Robins.
00:07 That was a 0-0 draw away from home at Queen's Park Rangers.
00:11 Then came the international break, allowing Manning the chance to get to know his squad better
00:17 and work with them closely before the next round of championship fixtures.
00:22 They welcome in-form Middlesbrough to Ashton Gate this weekend,
00:27 where Manning will come up against Michael Carrick in the Borough dugout,
00:32 someone he did some of his coaching badges with.
00:35 Carrick addressed the North East Media head of the game,
00:39 and when asked about his opposite number and opponents, he responded by saying this to the cameras.
00:45 Yeah, of course, that goes into it in terms of trying to get engaged on what they look like,
00:53 what they're going to try to do. It's not always easy, of course, because there's not loads to go on.
00:59 But there's a big element of trusting what we do and trusting the players.
01:05 You've got to take what's in front of you, really, and embrace the challenge.
01:10 In some ways, it can make it a little bit more difficult,
01:13 and in some ways it kind of simplifies it because there's not loads to delve into.
01:18 We can take what we can and trust ourselves an awful lot.
01:23 Carrick then went on to address some injury concerns for his Middlesbrough squad, including one big blow.
01:30 Yeah, it's obviously a blow to lose Darragh.
01:33 We've suffered from a few injuries recently, Tommy and Darragh being longer term.
01:40 So, yeah, it's a blow. Unfortunately, it is part of the game.
01:43 It's not the nice part of the game, but it is part of the game.
01:46 As a squad, we have to deal with it. The boys have done that very well so far.
01:51 A win for the Robins would set the ball rolling for Manning in his first home game in charge.
01:57 With only two points and a place separating the sides,
02:01 he would see Bristol City leapfrog Middlesbrough and go into the top ten in the league.
02:06 Carrick, of course, will have his own plans ahead of what promises to be quite the occasion.
02:13 Bristol Rovers are still managerless, going into their match away at Derby County on Saturday.
02:20 The Gass are four points behind Derby, meaning a win would not see them jump ahead of their opponents.
02:27 But they could see them move into ninth place, depending on Lincoln's result.
02:32 These are uncertain times for Bristol Rovers, and despite the league position being healthy,
02:38 many are calling for a manager to be brought in sooner rather than later to help build on their start to the season.
02:46 That's all for your Bristol Football Roundup this week, ahead of two big fixtures at the weekend.
