00:00 He scripted one of India's best-known stories in ethnic snacking and leaves behind a rich
00:08 legacy of resilience and determination.
00:11 Kedarnath Aggarwal, chairman of one of India's largest and most well-known packaged snacks
00:17 and sweets companies, Bikanerwala Group, passed away on Monday at the age of 86.
00:24 His death marked the end of an era that has enriched palates and touched countless lives,
00:29 shared Bikanerwala in a statement.
00:32 The company operates more than 60 outlets in India and has presence in countries such
00:36 as the USA, New Zealand, Singapore, Nepal and the UAE.
00:40 "Kakaji's departure is not just a loss to Bikanerwala, it's a void in the culinary
00:45 landscape.
00:46 His vision and leadership will forever guide our culinary journey," said the group's
00:52 managing director, Shyam Sundar Aggarwal.
00:58 The brand Bikanerwala has seen several phases, starting from Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar, established
01:04 by Aggarwal's father in 1905 in the Rajasthan town.
01:08 As the country attained independence, senior Aggarwal's sons Kedarnath and Satyanarayan
01:13 decided to take the family recipes to Old Delhi with the desire to expand their business
01:18 out of the desert state.
01:20 Initially, both struggled with carrying buckets filled with bhujia and rasgulla selling in
01:25 the streets of Old Delhi.
01:26 However, the Aggarwal brothers' hard work and the unique taste of Bikaner soon gained
01:31 recognition and acceptance among the people of Delhi.
01:36 Following a laborious, almost cinematic journey of finding their feet in the country's capital,
01:42 the brothers established a stall in Chandni Chowk's Parathewali Gali, giving it the name
01:47 Bikaner Bhujia Bhandar.
01:49 Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar soon became famous for its moong dal halwa, Bikaneri bhujia and
01:54 kaju katli, amongst others.
01:56 The two brothers and the shop soon became popular as Bikanerwala.
02:02 In 1968, when Aggarwal's son and the Bikanerwala group's current managing director, Shyam,
02:07 joined the business, the sweet shop's footprint had expanded to other parts of Delhi, including
02:12 Karol Bagh.
02:13 This expansion was enabled by a new factory on Lawrence Road.
02:17 In the 1980s, to counter Western food products in India, the sweet shop expanded to other
02:21 parts of the country.
02:22 By this time, the business's third name, a callback to its roots, had assumed recognition
02:27 in Delhi.
02:28 Bikanerwala, literally meaning "from Bikaner."
02:31 "As we bid farewell to a legend, we carry forward his legacy with a deep sense of responsibility.
02:38 Bikanerwala will continue to be a reflection of his values, a place where every dish tells
02:43 a story and every customer is part of our extended family," said Radhe Mohan Aggarwal,
02:49 director of Bikanerwala Group and the eldest son of Kakaji.
02:53 "We are proud to be a part of this legacy." - Radhe Mohan Aggarwal, Director, Bikanerwala Group.
