Patrice Neyron's Fatal Crash @ Rallye de la Châtaigne 2001 (Aftermath)

The Citroën Saxo VTS driven by Laurent Segard left the road and hit a tree during a special stage of the Rallye de la Châtaigne. Segard escaped uninjuried, but his co-driver Patrice Neyron died instantly in the accident.

Patrice Neyron was a native of the region of Ain and lived in Oyonnax. He had fifteen years of experience as a co-driver. Although he had spent five of these fifteen years with Segard they had never raced together in 2001 before this race.

Another fatality occurred in the 2002 edition of the Rallye de la Châtaigne, when the spectator Jacques Roulin was killed in an accident during the second special stage of the rally.
