00:00 [MUSIC - "I'M NOT GOING TO BE LATE"]
00:03 Every morning 'bout half past eight,
00:22 my mama wakes me, says, don't be late.
00:25 I get to the office trying to concentrate my life.
00:30 It's just a slow train crawling up a hill.
00:34 So I stop one day to figure it out.
00:37 I quit my job without a shadow of a doubt
00:40 to sing the blues that I know about.
00:44 My life is just a slow train crawling up a hill.
00:48 Minute after minute, second after second,
00:52 hour after hour goes by.
00:56 Working for a rich girl, staying just a poor girl,
00:59 never stop to wonder why.
01:03 So here I am in London town, a better scene
01:08 I'm going to be around.
01:10 The kind of music that will bring me down.
01:14 My life is just a slow train crawling up a hill.
01:22 [MUSIC - "I'M NOT GOING TO BE LATE"]
01:25 Every morning 'bout half past eight,
01:36 my mama wakes me, says, don't be late.
01:40 I get to the office trying to concentrate my life.
01:44 It's just a slow train crawling up a hill.
01:48 So I stop one day to figure it out.
01:51 I quit my job without a shadow of a doubt
01:54 to sing the blues that I know about.
01:58 My life is just a slow train crawling up a hill.
02:03 Minute after minute, second after second,
02:07 hour after hour goes by.
02:10 Working for a rich girl, staying just a poor girl,
02:14 never stop to wonder why.
02:18 So here I am in London town, a better scene
02:22 I'm going to be around.
02:24 The kind of music that will bring me down.
02:28 My life is just a slow train.
02:48 So here I am in London town, a better scene
02:52 I'm going to be around.
02:54 The kind of music that will bring me down.
02:58 My life is just a slow train crawling up a hill.
03:10 [APPLAUSE]
03:13 Thank you.
03:27 We're going to do a song now, which is called "Mary Pickford."
03:36 And it was quite an interesting way how it was written.
03:42 I was in the studio with my producer Mike Batt.
03:45 And we were having a recording session
03:48 and looking around to write songs and to record
03:52 songs on this last album.
03:54 And Mike had this calendar, which
03:56 had lots of strange and silly facts on them.
04:01 And on that particular day, the fact
04:03 that was written on this calendar
04:05 said that Mary Pickford used to eat roses.
04:09 And he turned to me and said, that's
04:11 a really good song title.
04:14 And I was like, oh yeah, you're right.
04:17 But to my surprise, I came in the next day into the studio
04:20 and he had it written.
04:21 And this is what it sounded like.
