00:00 The choreography of this dance is based on sign language, custom made for the audience.
00:10 This work by Dimor Dance Theater is made especially for deaf people.
00:16 Performance art is generally not as accessible to this special group, but this piece, Gamelang
00:22 So, is one that hopes to provide a richer experience for this underserved group.
00:28 The troupe held this performance for children at the Taipei School for the Hearing Impaired.
00:33 The language is beautiful.
00:36 Through this language, I think it allows children in Taiwan or in the world to see different languages.
00:44 This language includes emotions, body, and most importantly, psychological care.

00:54 Dimor Dance Theater's collaboration with the school is part of a government project.
01:00 It aims to expose younger audiences to art.
01:04 Aside from this school, the troupe is also presenting its modern dance with indigenous
01:09 Taiwan elements to children in southern Taiwan.
01:13 They are not alone.
01:14 A total of 42 groups have joined the project, introducing different forms of art to over 200 schools.
01:22 The Culture Ministry targets rural schools or those focused on serving children with special needs.
01:28 We will continue to promote this project next year.
01:33 We hope that every school will be open to this project and accept our team to go to school
01:42 to do art with students.
01:46 I believe that they will have a chance to change their perspective and have different feelings.
01:54 I believe that this performance will have a new impact on them at some point in the future.
02:00 The project has been going for six years now, and hundreds of art groups have done their part
02:06 to help bring about cultural equity.
02:09 The artists are there to inspire the children, but they are also just as likely to find inspiration
02:16 in their special audiences.
02:18 Chris Ma and Yu-Jin Huang for Taiwan Plus.
