00:00 Hi there. Really strong first 35 overs in that match.
00:08 Did you feel like, had you maybe taken that catch with Ben,
00:12 that that would have been a really strong position for you guys at halfway?
00:15 Yes, absolutely.
00:16 I think when it comes to big players and taking those half chances,
00:21 we definitely pride ourselves on doing that as a fielding unit.
00:24 And we practice those as well a lot.
00:28 So for us, it is a little bit disappointing.
00:31 But then again, like I don't think you can put it down to sort of that,
00:34 just that one opportunity.
00:36 It also comes back to, you know,
00:37 being able to execute our bowling plans and being disciplined as well.
00:40 Yeah, I don't think I would be disappointed not to take it,
00:44 but I wouldn't pin it on that, essentially.
00:46 Obviously, in the game of cricket, you make your own luck
00:50 and you make other opportunities as well.
00:51 So, yeah, it's just obviously disappointing that the momentum had shifted
00:55 from then on.
00:55 So, you know, which kind of got away from us, especially towards the death.
00:59 Yeah, we know Ben is a special player who can do great things.
01:02 You had him tied down for a long time.
01:04 You were shutting his boundary options, did you?
01:06 Was there any part of you that was fearing that if you didn't get him,
01:09 he would ultimately sort of explode at some point?
01:11 Look, with all the great players around the world,
01:16 that's always going to be the case.
01:18 They know what they're doing.
01:19 They know how to build an innings, essentially.
01:21 And obviously, when you get the pace of the wicket
01:24 and you get a feeling for the bowlers, especially when they're coming back
01:26 for their second and third spell, you've already seen them.
01:28 So from that point of view, yeah, look,
01:32 again, it comes back to our own sort of discipline
01:37 and our execution of our plans, which didn't quite happen at the back end.
01:41 But we're quite obviously happy with the way that we build pressure
01:44 and the way we came back.
01:46 Showed a lot of character, I thought, from the guys,
01:48 both from a fielding point of view and as a bowling unit as well.
01:51 So which was positive.
01:53 And you got away a few nice shots.
01:55 You were sort of ticking along nicely.
01:57 Do you feel that ultimately 179 was not quite
02:02 a great representation of that pitch because you were getting away quite well?
02:05 Yeah, it was a good pitch.
02:08 It's probably one of the better pitches that we've played on in this tournament,
02:11 where the pace and the balance of the wicket was quite consistent.
02:15 So, yeah, I don't think that's a fair representation.
02:19 And that's disappointing for our batting group, if I'm really honest.
02:24 Anybody else?
02:25 Tadge, could I just ask you to look forward to Sunday's game?
02:30 Obviously, a bit of a low-key spectacle in some ways today with the crowd
02:33 versus what will be pretty extraordinary probably on Sunday.
02:36 Yeah, look, I think to arguably play the best team in the comp
02:42 at the top of the table is something that we're very excited by.
02:45 And it's another opportunity for us.
02:48 I think every time we step on the park, we're trying to showcase our skills
02:51 and do the best that we can,
02:53 especially being at the World Cup and coming through the journey that we've done.
02:56 Yeah, we don't take any game for granted and definitely, yeah,
03:00 looking forward to getting out there on Sunday against India.
03:02 Teja, a lot of people will base their opinions on how you perform at the World Cup.
03:09 The two wins aside, it's been an indifferent tournament,
03:14 especially for the batters.
03:16 Where do you think it has gone wrong and how do you ensure that you keep building
03:20 on the exposure and the learnings?
03:22 Yeah, look, we haven't put together,
03:26 I think, the ideal game yet, if I'm really honest,
03:30 where we were able to do that in the qualifiers probably a bit more consistently.
03:34 But then we're up against the best teams in the world, the top nine teams
03:39 in the world here.
03:39 So, yeah, we've been tested both from a technical point of view,
03:44 as well as a skillful point of view, whether that's against spin or against pace.
03:48 I think there's some great reference points,
03:50 not only for us, but also guys back home.
03:53 And yeah, we've been writing down that learning.
03:57 We've been discussing that learning and also the intensity
04:02 and the overall
04:05 skill it requires to be able to access the ball in different areas
04:08 and rotate strikers, something that we're going to continue to work on.
04:12 As you can see, it's quite important.
04:14 You see people like Coley or even today how Ben Stokes were able to get good
04:18 balls of spinners just down to long on and long off and obviously ease their pressure.
04:23 Yeah, so they're definitely
04:26 reference points and they're definitely things that we've highlighted
04:30 throughout the course of this journey.
04:33 And we are growing and a learning group
04:36 of cricketers as a whole team, and we pride ourselves on that.
04:40 So I have no doubt that we'll get back to the drawing board,
04:43 discuss this game and take that forward.
04:47 Hi, you've obviously had opportunities and just even over the past year
04:52 in both formats that you play the games that you have won
04:58 against the four members.
05:00 What do you think?
05:01 What do you want to take your game to the level where you can start
05:06 beating them with consistency at tournaments like this?
05:09 Is it just a matter of more games?
05:11 Yes. And it's also being able to do that
05:14 Yes. And it's also being able to do good things for longer.
05:18 Whether again, to point out some quality players like,
05:24 you know, once they get to 30 or once they get to 40,
05:26 we're talking about our batting group, if we're talking about our bowling or spinners,
05:30 being able to nail that sort of length or area, not get bored
05:33 and stick to our plans and being able to execute and being able to execute
05:37 under pressure in front of crowds or obviously against big players.
05:41 These guys play against each other all the time.
05:44 They play in IPL.
05:45 They have lots of exposure in terms of what's going on.
05:48 In the Netherlands, we don't have a first class system.
05:52 We have club cricket and then we have Netherlands A cricket where we do some
05:56 touring and then you're thrusted on to the ICC World Cup scene
06:00 or the qualifiers or whatever, and then you're facing quality
06:04 quality bowlers who are bowling 135 plus or being able to turn the ball
06:09 and bowl a wrong in effectively.
06:10 So I think it's a mixture of both.
06:13 And the coaching staff,
06:15 in terms of the preparation and the planning over the last 12 to 14 months
06:19 has been exceptional, and that has bridged the gap for us.
06:22 So the longer we continue on this journey and sort of the more exposure,
06:27 as you say, is one.
06:29 But also being able to do those good things for longer will ensure that we beat
06:33 the obviously the main sides a lot more.
06:36 Can you beat India?
06:39 It's a game of cricket, right?
06:41 So it could be possible.
06:43 We play our band of cricket.
06:45 We we do what we do well.
06:48 We've got some great maneuvers of the ball.
06:50 We've got guys who can play spin well.
06:52 We've also got guys who can take wickets.
06:54 It really just obviously you need a bit of luck.
06:57 There's no doubt that they are a very strong team and, you know, they
07:01 they've been playing very good cricket.
07:04 But funnier things have happened in the game.
07:09 Teja, with this defeat, the Netherlands has to go down last place.
07:14 How do you feel about that?
07:15 You have another one match against a strong India.
07:17 Look, of course, it's disappointing to be in the last place.
07:21 Our objective to coming to the World Cup was to,
07:24 like every other team, to be in a position to play knockout cricket.
07:28 And as wild or as brave as that sounds,
07:33 you know, it's really important to have aspiration
07:36 and it's really important to have something to aim for.
07:39 So, you know, if you don't aim for that, you might you might get there
07:42 and which would be a good result.
07:43 But if you aim for here and you don't get anywhere, that's also not ideal.
07:47 But I think, as I said earlier, there's been a lot of learnings.
07:51 We pride ourselves on being able to evolve and grow,
07:56 which this exposure against the top nine teams in the world has done for us.
08:01 So being in last place, you know, that's where that's the cricket
08:06 that we're playing right now.
08:08 But I'm sure that we'll pick ourselves up and move forward in the coming
08:11 tournaments. We have the T20 World Cup next year that we've already qualified for.
08:15 So, you know, that's another opportunity for us to build towards.
08:19 And I have no doubt that, yeah, we'll definitely be causing
08:23 a few upsets there and playing well and wanting to play in the semifinals as well.
08:28 Sri Lanka and the Netherlands are the two teams qualified for this World Cup
08:32 after qualifying round played in a similar way.
08:35 Do you happy the way you played really well?
08:38 Or what are the positives?
08:40 I think because you did really big upset against
08:43 tough teams like South Africa.
08:45 Look, at that qualified tournament,
08:50 we played good, consistent cricket throughout.
08:53 We didn't bat well two games, and those were against Sri Lanka, unfortunately.
08:59 But we chased 375 against the West Indies.
09:02 We chased a number of other scores.
09:05 We put away teams. We were more ruthless.
09:08 So, again, it's just being able to transfer that style of play
09:12 against these top nine teams in the world, which will take a lot of learning.
09:17 If you look at someone like Afghanistan, they've been at the last three
09:22 World Cups now and look at what they're able to achieve.
09:25 So this is the first time that we're here in the last decade or so.
09:28 So, again, well, you know, Afghanistan didn't win a game,
09:33 won World Cup and they won one in 2015.
09:36 So there are teams that come in and get exposure, also have a tough time.
09:40 So we see this as a learning block.
09:42 But we're out there to compete.
09:45 No one comes to to lose or to play badly.
09:48 So, yeah.
09:50 Hi, you were quite competitive for the first 44 or 43 hours.
09:58 What happened? You ran out of team.
10:01 Just like your campaign as the tournament is ending.
10:04 You are not giving it, able to give the best.
10:07 Yeah, I wouldn't say that.
10:10 I think all the guys are trying very hard.
10:14 We're a very hard working group.
10:16 No one really misses an optional training
10:18 because for us to get opportunities to train on wickets like this
10:24 or to be able to have proper facilities is something that we
10:30 fully throw ourselves into.
10:32 So I think obviously as the tournament wears on, just with any other team,
10:37 like, you know, when you're playing hard cricket, it's tough.
10:40 It's not the easiest thing to be doing.
10:44 But yeah, look, there's been a little bit of sickness around the team
10:47 and stuff like that.
10:48 But guys are still finding up and taking ownership.
10:50 So which is really nice.
10:52 We're going to pick ourselves up as best as possible for the India game.
10:55 And we look forward.
