Penghu Marathon Runners Refuel With Seafood Delicacies

Runners taking part in the Penghu Cross-Sea Marathon were treated to lobster, crab and other seafood dishes along their route.

00:00 While most athletes refuel with energy gels or carby snacks,
00:04 these runners at Taiwan's Penghu Island Marathon
00:07 are munching on something unconventional
00:09 to get them through the 42-kilometre race.
00:12 They're snacking on crab, lobster and other types of seafood.
00:17 At the nine rest stations throughout the course,
00:20 the event organisers provided over 70 local delicacies.
00:24 And many of the runners joined the race just to get a taste.
00:28 We're here to eat lobster.
00:30 It's a fresh experience.
00:31 The organisers put a lot of effort into it,
00:33 so we're all looking forward to this race.
00:36 With about 4,000 participants in the full marathon this year,
00:40 the annual event attracted more people than ever.
00:43 And the seafood wasn't the only appeal.
00:45 Organisers say the event highlights Penghu's natural scenery.
00:49 While eating, we enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Penghu.
00:51 We passed by the beautiful Niuxinshan Rock,
00:55 Erkan, and the traditional rocky road,
00:58 and the ice-cold Kuaihai Bridge.
00:59 Racing among breathtaking views
01:02 and fuelled by Penghu's local cuisine,
01:05 runners were treated to a truly unique marathon experience.
