00:00 A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck a remote region of Nepal late Friday and killed more
00:14 than 130 people, with the death toll expected to rise further.
00:19 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that he is deeply saddened by the loss of
00:23 lives and damage due to the powerful earthquake in Nepal and added that India stands in solidarity
00:29 with the people of Nepal.
00:31 "Deeply saddened by loss of lives and damage due to the earthquake in Nepal, India stands
00:37 in solidarity with the people of Nepal and is ready to extend all possible assistance.
00:41 Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and we wish the injured a quick recovery,"
00:47 PM Modi posted on X.
00:49 India has always extended support to the countries in case of calamities and disasters.
00:54 When the deadly earthquake of 2015, the Gorkha earthquake struck Nepal, India launched Operation
01:06 Maitri.
01:07 The operation was launched within hours of the devastating earthquake.
01:10 Within days, over 43,000 Indians were evacuated through the land route from earthquake-hit
01:15 Nepal.
01:16 A total of 685 vehicles came back, carrying Indians, foreigners and some injured people
01:21 who were given medical care at the camps set up by the force.
01:24 The massive operation witnessed the evacuation of 341 foreigners who were granted transit
01:29 visas.
01:30 A total of 9,509 persons were evacuated by air and 785 foreigners were granted transit.
01:38 India's response started within 15 minutes of the quake and it was the first country
01:42 to respond to the catastrophe by launching this full-fledged rescue and relief operation.
01:49 India had sent 18 medical teams, comprising 20 people each, and 12 engineer teams of about
01:54 60 people to the neighbouring country.
01:56 While the engineers were helping to clear the rubble from blocked roads, the power assessment
02:00 team had managed to restore electricity in major areas.
02:15 More recently, when the powerful and devastating earthquake hit Turkey and Syria in February,
02:20 India launched Operation Dost to help in the relief and rescue operations.
02:24 India was among the first countries to help earthquake-hit Turkey, according to Turkish
02:28 envoy Firaz Sunayl.
02:30 India immediately sent NDRF squads for rescue operations in affected areas of Turkey on
02:34 the evening of 6 February 2023.
02:37 The Indian Air Force sent a C-17 to Adana with 47 personnel from the NDRF, three senior
02:42 officers and a specially trained dog squad.
02:46 Accompanying personnel were necessary equipment, including medical supplies, drilling machines
02:50 and other equipment required for the aid efforts.
02:53 The extreme weather conditions, sub-zero temperatures and language barrier were among the other challenges
02:58 faced by the rescue teams, and interpreters were needed for communication with the locals.
03:03 Operation Dost and Operation Maitri are examples of India's dedication to humanity and its
03:07 commitment to stand by nations in distress.
03:10 India has taken the initiatives of helping other countries, as it believes in the philosophy
03:14 of Vasudev Kutumbakam.
03:16 This philosophy imparts a sense of oneness to a common humanity, our common developmental
03:20 goals and our common quest for rule-based global order and international peace.
03:25 It conveys, secondly, that we prevail or perish together as one family.
