I went to see Billy Elliot at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre on Wednesday. Before the show started I bought a programme to have a look at the potential Billies. If I could have picked one to perform form me that night it probably would have been Fox Jackson-Keen, because he seemed to look the cutest and because I loved how he introduced himself in the programme: “Hi, my name is Fox - yes Fox - my Mum and Dad were big X-Files fans“. Adorable.
However, I ended up with a young man by the name of Tanner Pflueger from Norfolk, Nebraska. And boy, was he awesome. Just incredible. So incredible in fact that I’m thinking that it’s all a great big fraud. They must be using some top-notch 21st century technology to create the illusion that a 13-year-old boy can dance like that because it’s physically impossible. Or is it?
Anyway, about a month ago Tanner appeared on a TV program called Feelgood Factor, together with another of the current Billies, Tom Holland, and former Billy Layton Williams whom I’ve come to love for his role in Beautiful People. Take it away, boys.
Billy Elliot The Musical can be seen at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre and at the Imperial Theater in New York City.
