Glasgow headlines 2 November: Woman caught trying to smuggle 45,000 cigarettes from Nigeria

A 45-year-old woman was caught attempting to smuggle 45,000 cigarettes from Nigeria to Glasgow.

She was detained at Glasgow Airport after arriving on a connecting flight from Amsterdam while Border Forces seized three suitcases, as she was found to have evaded £16,000 of excess duty.

The woman claimed the cigarettes were a wedding gift for her friend.

Next up, a vehicle repair business who launched a legal bid to stop the operation of Glasgow’s low emission zone has failed.

John Paton and Sons took Glasgow City Council to civil court, arguing the ban on high-polluting vehicles would be detrimental to their business.

The Court of Session refused the motion saying the grounds to challenge were not well founded.

And in other news, the Green Brigade have had their season tickets withdrawn from Celtic Football Club indefinitely due to unacceptable behaviour.

The club said the decision was made based on multiple incidents that occurred over an extended period of time.
