Make My Day (2003) (Stephanie Lane)

This is an episode of a hidden camera prank style game show called Make My Day. The concept involved someone being stars of their own game show - only they have no idea about it, or that they are even being filmed! They have been secretly nominated by friends for the show, which then sets up hidden cameras around their home or workplace. The theme of the show would then be a day where strange things would happen and the person involved would have to make a series of choices to unknowingly win prizes at the end of the show, where the whole secret would be revealed to the unwitting subject. Make the right choices, they win a prize; make two wrong ones, and they fail to bag the big prize at the end. The unwitting victim of this episode is a girl called Stephanie Lane, a 22 year old pizza waitress from Winchester, who experiences a day to remember, which includes bumping into her teen idol Mark Owen and having to lie to magician Paul Daniels over the phone.

I came across this quite by chance on the end of an old video tape I got from a Car Boot Sale, and decided to upload it here just in case there may be anyone who remembers the show or who were looking for episodes of this. The show ran for two series on Channel 4 from 2002-03, originally presented by Sara Cox, but in this episode by Edith Bowman. I only have the one episode, I may add, but it's one of those shows where if it hasn't been recorded by someone then they are usually lost forever, so a rare find indeed. One query I do have is whether poor Stephanie here got to see what material they were going to use for the show, or did she only see the footage upon broadcast? Because I can imagine she was somewhat mortified by the hidden camera footage they showed at 1:35 in - talk about embarrassing the girl!
